Army in Trang launches plastic bag-zero campaign

TRANG, 18 October 2015 (NNT) - The 4th Infantry Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment has launched a Styrofoam-zero campaign to encourage its members to reduce use of Styrofoam containers and plastic bags.

The commander said the campaign was aimed at promoting the government’s environmental policy.

The 4th Infantry Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment has given cloth bags to officials and their families to encourage them to use the bags instead of plastic ones when they go shopping.

The move is expected to raise awareness of the importance of environmental conservation among Infantry officials and communities around the camp.

A survey by the Pollution Control Department showed that the country threw away around 7,000 tons of plastic bags and Styrofoam trash per day, or 2.7 million tons per year. A plastic bag takes as long as 450 years to decompose.

That's really great. Got to start somewhere. Teachers can tell the kids to put a little pressure on their parents.

They need to move to biodegradable bags if the current ones take 450 years to decompose But really 450 years, what type of plastic is that ? And is that 450 years in a landfill or 450 in a ditch at the side of the road ?
