Thailand: Medical hub of ASEAN for plastic surgery

BANGKOK, 22 October 2015 (NNT) - The visit of Dr. Apirag Chuangsuwanich to NBT world gave us the opportunity to speak with him in Thailand Today.

Dr. Apirag said that Thailand has been a medical hub in ASEAN for plastic or aesthetic surgery for more than ten years. Many foreigners come to Thailand for plastic surgery. It is not uncommon for as many as 50 patients per month to come here for specialist operations.

The main reason foreigners come for aesthetic operations in Thailand is because we have experience and offer special areas of expertise such as transgender surgery.

Others can not compete with our experience in the area of gender reassignment for example.

He added that the Tourism Authority of Thailand is one of the main organizations which assists the private sector in building the confidence of foreign patients.

They initiate many activities to promote and inform people about aesthetic surgery services available in Thailand.

I have been told many times how handsome I am. I have begun to notice some wrinkling & wondered about a minor 'nip/tuck' op. Any recommended hospitals; any idea of prices?

Hmm, also thought about this from time to time so would be interested in the responses.

About five years ago I met a friend of a friend and he had explained that he had just had cosmetic surgery in Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok, and although he was completely bald, there was absolutely no trace of scarring anywhere. Having said that I don't believe he had a full facelift, just a part one which would not involve anything around the hairline, not that he had one anyway!!!!

He looked great and as I said, there was absolutely no visible marks at all. Contrast that with a woman I saw about a month ago in the local supermarket and she had had a full facelift and by the look of it it had been done by Doctor Frankenstein.........I was always led to believe that cosmetic surgery should be done with small stitches, creating small scars which would soon disappear, however this woman's stitches around the hairline and in front and behind the ears, were absolutely enormous, quite frightening in fact and there was no way that I could see this resulting in fine lines which blended into normal facial lines etc etc.

I hope I'm wrong, however I do think that this woman would be/will be disappointed with the end results??
