PHUKET: -- A man who set himself on fire at a Phuket temple yesterday has refused to explain what motivated the self-mutilation.

Pichet Meephon, 24, told police that he drove his motorbike from Thalang to Wat Mongkolnimit, where he purchased fuel from a nearby gas station.

“Once back at Wat Mongkolnimit, Mr Pichet set himself on fire,” said Lt Col Chaliew Tuyhu of Phuket City Police.

maybe facebook was down...

Or even worse, and I hate to say this, but maybe Wechat, LINE AND Facebook were down at the same time. That would be unbearable

Looks like someone put him out pretty quickly. Hopefully no serious burns. 30%-40% is alot, hopefully only widespread rather than deep. Can't see the front, don't want to... Nasty way to end it all.

Shirts are buy 3 get one free at Lotus now.

looks like the guy on the right is going to give him something to ease the pain

Clearly a mentally disturbed individual.

A 30-40% burn is a serious injury but with good care survivable.

Some sympathy and a little understanding costs very little but the TV trolls prefer to make "jokes"

Agreed, but from personal experience, have found that at least a few "jokesters" in these sad circumstances use humor as a way of overcoming their own compassion response....particularly among the more "macho" male type who see the expression of overt feelings as a sign of weakness (not a good thing).

just saying...

These guys really wear their hearts on their sleeve.

I can tell from your response that you're not one of those macho, cynical humor types, not afraid demonstrate your feelings...particularly the insulting ones.

Stop being such a dip stick, who is your sympathy and understanding being directed at ? The Thai man here isn't going to read anything on TV.If you want to hold his hand and listen to his story and show your empathy you could find out which hospital he is being treated at and go and visit him. As Oscar Wilde once wrote,''If there was less sympathy in the world there would be less trouble in the world''. I stand by Ricky Gervais,''You can make fun of anything''.
