Security elevated in Yala following blasts

YALA: The authorities have beefed up security in Yala in a bid to prevent a recurrence of the violence that rocked the deep South province last week and are searching for five suspicious vehicles.

There were a series of bomb attacks in Yala on Thursday night, one of which brought down an electricity pole and caused blackouts.

On Friday there were two more bomb attacks in the province, resulting to five policemen being wounded.

Vehicle inspections have been particularly tight on routes heading towards the downtown area of Muang district.

A national security source said the attacks on Thursday were carried out by local units of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil group, especially the one led by Isma-ae "Ustaz Soh" Rayarong.

"a bid to prevent a recurrence of the violence"

A misdirected effort. More sincere efforts put into peace talks would be better but the military would have to give up control of the publicity.
