Ten Things that Suck About Bangkok Living
By Sasiwan Mokkhasen

BANGKOK — While continuously voted to be the world’s top destination for tourists for 4 consecutive years, Bangkok ranked 102 out of 140 best cities to live in 2014.

As the only city in Thailand that people can elect their own Governor, Bangkok should be a role model of participatory local governance.

That was the non-profit research institute “Thailand Future Foundation” said when they revealed their new study about the City of God on Friday.

Here are 10 facts they believed can stimulate residents to push for changes against Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

I am always very sceptical about the survey saying Bangkok is the favourite destination for tourists. The voters are probably high flying businessmen, who stay in five star hotels, get chauffered around the city from one high class restaurant to another, all on expenses. They don't have to deal with the overcrowded Skytrain, dodgy street food, cheating taxi drivers, treacherous sidewalks, sorry motorbike lanes. Then they fly out stopping only to vote Bangkok their favourite destination after not seeing the 'real' Bangkok at all.

Not sure about your logic there. If I am pampered and on expense accounts I can think of many other places I would rather do that than Bangkok. Perhaps it is the sex tourists that sway the vote?

I love Bangkok. There are a few things that are annoying at times, like when you need to get to work and it starts to rain, or when you want to go home and its peeing it down, groups of people walking exceedingly slowly blocking footpaths, stairs etc

Cannot say i am ever or at least so rarely it does not register, affected by cheating taxis, dodgy street food. The sidewalks dont bother me, and the motorbikes, streetcars, food vendors are all part of what makes BKK what it is.

I lived in BKK for 5 years in the 90's, it was a fun and interesting place back then. Now a couple of visits a year for the shopping, 3 nights is enough before I'm chomping at the bit to leave.

That said, one man's meat.......
