Thai Army purchases missile defence system

Missile systems, submarines, bullet proof maybach limos, what the hell is going on in this country? There is no military aggression pointing at Thailand, yet so much of the countries budget goes to defense while the infrastructure and education system are in free fall. No one at the helm, the public don't seem to care.

Flying domestic over Thailand just got a whole lot more dangerous...

Seriously, what would buying a handful of these missiles actually accomplish. To be useful, they would need missiles from top to bottom of Thailand in some sort of co-ordinated computer system and round the clock monitoring and surveillance intelligence systems.

And who are they scared of exactly that has missiles to attack Thailand that couldn't wipe them off the face of the Earth if they so wanted?

So, they have 1 aircraft carrier, a handful of missiles, a few subs on order...and can't even stop the internal problems down south.

Fail...can you get your money back?

You're right, Thailand has no credible external threats, incredible internal corruption in spades!whistling.gif

Every Thai govt tries to keep the military on side with the toys they want, notice I didn't say need, and with a military junta in charge it's so much easier.

Going back over the years with purchases like the aircraft carrier and up to date with the ' must have ' subs it begs the questions of who does LoS think it may have to defend against or who do they plan to attack ?

If History repeats itself it could be Burma.

There is nothing going on with Thailand , as Thailand watchers from way back know this is ordinary , nothing unusual and up with the Thai military standards of buying equipment they don't need , but it makes em feel good and important.

I used to work those shows, and later worked with the RTA, RTAF & RTMC (ground equipment).

Their budget will include ZERO baht for maintenance, just like the billion baht pedestrian lights in Pattaya, that don't work and/or are ignored....AND the CCTV cameras.

Back-handers ABSOLUTELY MUST be paid to score these contracts.

Makes me afraid to fly any airline now that these clowns have this.

I suppose the only saving grace is that none of this garbage will work soon enough, as:

#1 There is no way to use it for extortion, and

#2 It costs too much to keep it working for very long (no hab budget)......Which reminds me of an aircraft carrier that flies a flag with a white elephant on it.

EnglishJohn??? Your thoughts?

The public have no voice hence no choice, what are they going to do, hold a protest, that's against the law.

of those sneaky French... taking advantage of a military junta like that... biggrin.png

FWIW, Starstreak comes from Belfast.

could well be ... I was obviously joking about the sneaky French, but that is where the company comes from... crazy socialists. laugh.png

Yes, but when did selling arms to regimes far more murderous, oppressive and vile, ever stop the UK, US, Germany et-al from doing the same!?

The Navy are after their subs, the army have got their missile defence, when are the poor old air force going to get in on the act?.....

Starstreak is not an anti-missile system, it's an anti-aircraft system.

The RTAF are unlikely to "get in on the act" because it's them that the RTA (primarily) and the RTN are scared of.

The RTA and the RTN would be very vulnerable if/when somebody comes to power, who has the backing of the RTAF.

Didn't know the red shirts had any missiles to defend from. blink.png

Hmm,now that you say it, maybe the RTA indeed became intel someone went even more crazy than before and upgraded the destructive power of his red thugs and agents in black with missiles now, beware... LOL

You mean something like what was feared 1 1/2 year ago about that RTAF chief who was(is?) a pawn of the convict-on-the-run, ...the same who then became a high member of the NCPO, and a top-minister in the present government?

Hmm, 'crazy socialists', isn't it, 'tbt'? 'For the people by the people' and wearing red shirts then, bit like what those phoney and loony UDD guys you are so fond of pretend to be then? Oh, and truly 'democratically elected' those 'Froggies', mind you!

'Maybach limos', hmm, that's a scoop, where did you get that one from, or just an invention of yours in an attempt to make your comment more 'interesting'?

"The training level of the operator." Ok lads, hands up all those who can make rockets out of polypipe and a bamboo stick. You are now the Missile Defence Battalion. Don't push any buttons unless I say so.

Also very good of the manufacturer to include the launching system in the contract.

First the missile defence system, then the Navy will stamp its feet and get its submarines.

Then to be fare the Air Force will get to upgrade its fighter planes with a couple of squadrons

from whoever gives the best kickbacks. whistling.gif

Not sure if they will be Maybachs but it was reported yesterday. 90 million for 4 luxury

VIP armoured limos. The procurement started during Yinglucks tenure and it has been

approved by the current administration.

Not to worry, they are probably only intended to be used once - to provide an air defence umbrella whilst all those armoured limousines pick up their cargos and skidaddle for the airport!
