Adam Pickles attack: Man jailed over Thailand assault

LEEDS: -- A man has been jailed for six years in Thailand over an assault that left a teacher from West Yorkshire needing round-the-clock medical care.

Adam Pickles, 43, spent more than a year in a coma after being attacked by Sean Tinsley in Pattaya in 2012.

Mr Pickles' family said Tinsley, originally from Wolverhampton, had been jailed after an initial not guilty ruling was overturned on appeal.

His mother, Adele, said the verdict meant "justice had been served".

Adele Pickles, from Thorner, near Leeds, said: "We've never felt vengeance or hatred; we've never felt these kind of feelings.

"We wanted to be able to tell Adam that we did everything we possibly could to get that verdict for him and for the sake of his son, Benjamin, so we can say, yes, this happened, but we got justice for him."

"Tinsley was cleared of a charge of attempted murder but, following, an appeal he was convicted of assault and jailed.

He was also fined 6.2 million Thai baht (£114,000).

The BBC understands he has up to 60 days to appeal against the verdict and has lodged an application for bail."

I wish full recovery to Mr. Adam and hell on heart to his attacker.

So 6.2M for police and nothing for the family?

I stopped drinking in bars years ago. There are too many boorish idiots out there expecially after theyve drunk half the brewery...Wishful thinking on behalf of the courts to fine him over 6m baht.

They'll never collect on that deal unless the farang was silly enough to buy property here. (unlikely)

He'll only serve about half the sentence and go home.

What happened to that other Brit looney Aldhouse who killed the US marine in Phuket?

Another quality tourist. I see lots of them on the plane ride here.

Usually hammered and getting offensive at the stewardess for not giving him more alcohol after 3 hours.

He went to Thai jail and I believe he got transferred to a Brit one later on (but could be mistaken on that)

Alcohol is just a dangerous drug some can't handle it.. its legal.. never heard of someone on marijuana going berserk and killing people. Crazy laws.. just because its easy to tax alcohol. People who can't handle their drink should not drink.

Neither one of these guys were tourists.

Have you forgotten about Charles Manson and his cult? When they murdered Sharon Tate...they weren't smoking Marlboro!

cheesy.gif you take a serial killer as an example while on the other hand there are countless examples of people killing others when drunk. But none for marijuana. Bit bias don't you think. Alcohol is just a dangerous hard drug that is known for causing aggression. Far worse as many other drugs but legal.

There's no coincidence that marijuana is linked to the peace and love movement of the sixties. The overwhelming majority of pot smokers become mellow and peaceful. Those who become aggressive would probably get angry by drinking water as well.

If pot was allowed and alcohol prohibited world wide we would see a significant drop in violent crime and road deaths.

Good to see the harsh fine , just wish the Thai authorities would impliment this across the board.

A recent "driver" of a mini bus was fined 7000 baht for dangerous driving leading to multiple deaths....7000 compared to 6.2 million...not quite right!

Whilst I agree fining people has its merits, I would like to know where does the money go? Does it get pumped back into the legal system somehow or goes to something else. Is there any transparency and accountability were the money can be tracked. it maybe a daft question. I am sure there maybe a strong possibility that it goes into a tea fund.smile.png

Despite the numerous derogatory comments about people who choose to hang out in Pattaya, sure there are some, but they are FAR outnumbered by the decent normal constructive peace loving punters who wish to call this place home :) I feel much safer here than in any other country I have lived in, and as long as one conducts one,s self in a normal manner you will never have a problem :) Walk out in the streets of any major american city at night and you take your life in your hands, and U.K is not much better :(

Agreed, but can't see people smoking a big joint on Surkunimit happening anytime soon!

The scum tend to hang out around soi bukow and walking street. Real losers who hang out at bars all the time. Its like a freak show.

Agree. Unfortunately it's these kind of a$$h0les that give us decent law abiding people living here in Pattaya a bad name. When I am out I sometimes cringe at the low life excuses for human beings that come here to visit ... but we all know why they do. Pattaya will never ever lose its seedy image because this is where money talks but everyone here should not be tarred with the same brush.

I think youre confusing Aldouse with several other Brits who applied for transfer to UK. It takes years for the paperwork to go through before anything happens. Aldhouse was deported from the UK to Thailand just a few years ago to await trail.

I bet the yanks had something to do with his deportation as he killed a US marine.

You mean those on a budget and not wearing a suit and tie ,to come up to your supposed standard.

This is a You Tube link to a BBC regional news feature on the case, including CCTV images and an interview with the British barrister who assisted in the case. I bet he's inundated with Thailand-related work after this...

I saw two potheads arguing big time over what topping to have on their pizza before now. tongue.png

As I understand it this was nothing to do with drinking in bars, they had a disagreement of some sort and the guy who's just been jailed waited for the other fella and hit him in the head with a crowbar.

He isn't a tourist.

He was running a visa shop, fixing thai visas for fundless foreigners.

Just reminds me to ask, so what about the Red Bull heir? Is he back in Thailand now? has all been forgotten? How long will that little weasel be able to run free for killing a cop while under the influence of alcohol and drugs?

Mr Pickles is now in a english hospital - STILL in a coma, after all these years. He will never recover.

Mr Tinsley needs to spend more than 6 yrs in a Thai prison for what he did.

I guess you visit frequently since you know this?

Read the link in the OP...it was "Road Rage"...universal wherever there there are motor vehicles and boneheads behind the wheel...even in our civilized western utopias.

to attack someone with an iron bar makes him the lowest of the low a moron an animal a loathsome thing I do wish the powers that be had a purge to clear out all these undesirables they are like a festering sore on the face of pattaya .

6 years for a farang beating a farang.

500b fine for a 19 yr old Thai that stabbed a 70 yr old Westerner because they brushed past each other in the street.

Charles Manson & his followers had planned the murders of Tate (and others) some way in advance of the actual event. His followers were something of a cult and were led by Manson who had a string of previous convictions. The brutal killings were as a result of his insanity rather than his use of marijuana. Quite different from the havoc that alcohol use creates all over the world and in all societies.
