PHUKET: An out-of-control car crashed into the departure hall of Phuket International Airport yesterday evening.

“Woranut Buted, 33, said she confused the brake and gas pedals, accidentally accelerating into the trolleys and breaking the glass wall near an airport security checkpoint,” said Maj Santi Prakobpran of the Tah Chat Chai Police.

A nearby passenger, Chinese national Shuya Zhang, 24, received minor cuts from the spray of glass, confirmed Monrudee Gettuphan, director of Phuket International Airport.

The evidence that she would not have passed her driving test in any first and second world countries...

Easy done, well there are 2 pedals to chose from rolleyes.gif

At first i thought it was my local Lotus where the drivers would take their vehicles inside and up and down the lanes if they could.

It beats parking in the Disabled Drivers' spaces nearest to the entrance.

Not my fault I swear there was no airport here yesterday...

Yes, but in Thailand Thais don't have to pass any driving test to get a driving licence and to be allowed to drive.

You must be living under a rock. Yes they have to pass tests now

Yes! And for a 500 baht gratuity to the examinor, everyone can drive!

What difference does taking a test make when the standards required to pass it are so basic that only very limited training, if any, is needed in order to pass it?

Maybe she did take a test - in a geared car!

But saying that accidents like this happen everywhere, just a lot more in Thailand.

Sorry the rent a car company is to blame for not making it clear where to drop the car off haha

Security and guard everywhere but the only airport I know where it actually are possible to drive a car directly in to the arrival hall. We shall be grateful there was no bomb in that car.

Yes I know for a fact that many Thai's do not get a driving test

I live in the north and at the liscence bureau the man in charge

of testing the drivers is called the 800 Baht man !!!

No, they can't drive - they just pass the test and get a licence to drive. There's a difference. :)
