Which entry point is the closest and best to BKK if I was to do my second entry on my METV. How many days do I need to stay in said country

The crossing at Ban Phu Nam Ron in Kanchanaburi province to Myanmar is nearest to Bangkok.

After their the Ban Laem crossing to Cambodia is the best.

No need to stay overnight. You can leave Thailand enter the other country, turn around and come right back.

Do we know if the 60 days can be extended by 30 days like old TV?

Any of the 60 day entries from a METV can be extended for 30 days.

You can do an entry just before the visa expires to get a new 60 days and extend it for 30 days. By doing that you can get almost 9 months of total stay from the visa.

I'm on a METV and got a bit of a grilling by the IO at Phuket airport in November, asking if I worked here, etc. I have a lot of stamps in my passport, even though it's a new one I got in the summer of 2016 (I've spent most of the time in Thailand since May 2015). Anyway, because of my experience in November I avoided flying to KL or Singapore and instead went over to Myanmar by boat. I was in Myanmar for about 5 minutes and got stamped on re-entry, no questions asked. I'll be doing it again on my next 'run' as it was super easy and actually quite an enjoyable experience.

So yeah, I echo your thoughts.

From where did you get a boat and where in Myanmar did you go? You applied for Myanmar visa?

He left from Ranong and went tp Kawthaung Myanmar.

You pay 500 baht or $10 US for a Myanmar border pass.

Ubonjoe has already answered this. But just to confirm, you don't need a visa. You just pay $10 and are not allowed to leave the town. I was there for about 10 minutes before getting the same boat back. Really easy and far better than flying somewhere. FYI the boat cost 600 baht, but it's negotiable and you could get it cheaper if you haggle. I couldn't be bothered as I thought it was a fair price.

Thay do not ask for financial proof to apply for a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Savannakhet. No need for a bank statement..

I did this trip a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it....Too far away now......Wandered around the small Burmese ramshackle village/town for a few hours before returning; friendly immigration and friendly town. Bought some very cheap viagra!

Would 2 years on METVs be pushing it for immigration for entry into the country? (1st METV, +90 Day extension for final entry, followed by SETV + 30 Day extension) then returning to Aus for a month, then repeating a 2nd year?

Assuming its not always feasible for me to cross at a land border and entries, and there may be times I need to fly in Via BKK or Chiang Mai (But avoiding Don Mueng). Has anyone had trouble with immigration doing this?

The chances of being denied entry at the airport, with a visa, are tiny. If the IO isn’t happy with your history you will likely get a warning rather than be denied entry.

These days lving in Thailand long term as a ‘tourist’ is pushing your luck as you are at the mercy of the discretionary power of the IO’s. However, given the rare reports of people being denied you shouldn’t have a problem.

Yes, they have - reported here.  Rare, but it has happened - both Don Muang and BKK.  Almost all cases were "Didn't have 20K Baht worth of cash to show."  In a couple cases, they had the cash, and were denied anyway.

But, no such reports, yet at least, from Chaing Mai airport.  If you must fly in, I would go through customs there, then fly domestic to where ever you need to go next.

The rules state you have to apply for it in your home country or country of legal residence.

However there have been reports of people get one in Australia without being a citizen or resident there since there only requirement is that you have visa for there.

Yes.

You can get single entry tourist visas from embassies/consulates neighbouring Thailand.

Is it still the same routine to get a METV from the Embassy in London for an OAP by applying in person.

Do you still just take

Passport

2 photos

Proof of pension

Fee

Application form

These were the previous requirements until 2016. Is it still the same.

I replied to the same questions you posted in another topic.

So after 9 visits to the Thailand consulate in Vientiane, I got a stamp that said no more SETV. Wasn't told in November 2017, went on Monday and got shown it on my passport, very tiny writing on the edge of the visa page. But my passport is full, so will get another one soon. 1 page for an extension. So the question is will they do the same thing on my new passport, when I go in April? Any others have this problem after 9 visas? Your options please. Australia passport user.

P. S. That's the visa. If I had noticed it in Nov, I'd have got a new passport. Doh

Getting a new passport eliminates your history of visa application done since they don't maintain records of your history at embassies and consulates. They only look in your passport for visas issued previously.

It will not erase your history in immigration's database though. They will link your old and new passports the first time you use the new passport for entry.

Thanks Joe, I couldn't open you topic on Vientiane. Does it say how many times you can get visas from there? I'm thinking that they saw I had 4 pages left, when I did the visa in Nov. Any views?

On another topic, I'm a dual citizen of UK to. Never used the passport. I guess I'll be able to use it, if I fly into Bangkok? Without an exit stamp from another country?

The norm is 4 tourists visas at Vientiane and then a stamp on the visa like yours.

The don't look for departure stamps at airports since some countries don't do them. People swap passports by air all the time without a problem.

I'm in Bangkok on a METV and want to extend my current entry with 30 days. This is not my last entry, I'm still gonna go out/come back one more time in march. Just wanna make sure there's no problem extending an entry even though it's not the last entry I'll make. I heard someone claim that it might void the Visa if I make an extension, but to me that sounds like BS.. am I right?

Also, where is better to go for an extension, Samut Prakan or Chaengwattana? Is it even possible for me to extend at Samut Prakan? Someone said the lines are much shorter there.

There’s no problem extending your current entry by 30 days. Any entry can be extended. You won’t “void the visa”.

You can apply at any office, but must use an address within the catchment area of the office you apply at. No proof of address is required at Chaengwattana, not sure about Samut Prakan.

Great, thanks!

I'm also considering doing the extension in Jomtien or Pattaya, as I might be headed there within the validity time and it could possibly save me some time (got at least one hour single journey to Chaengwattana). Would it be possible to use a hotel as the address there? Don't have any proof of address as I'm in an AirBnb in Bangkok.

Not a problem in Pattaya staying as long as the hotel reports your stay to immigration.

Chaeng Wattana immigration does not ask for proof of address to apply for the 30 day extension.

I just left my employer to explore career changes, and idea of spending several months in Thailand without any constraint on plans to explore around SE Asia.  I could ask a relative to write "employment verification" since he own a business, but I am wondering how strict they are about employment verification letter.  I am curious if they would even bother to call to verify, or it's something that satisfy "METV requirements".  I do have financial means, and would have zero problem to produce 6 months of bank statement that show $7,000+ based on Thai General Consulate at New York's website requirement.

Any experiences with New York consulate related to METV application will be much appreciated, thanks!

I don't think they check to see if the letter is real or not. The letter could state you have been given a leave of absence for 6 months and the job will be waiting for you when you come back.
