I think it would be better if people posted only on topics that they had some interest in.

For example, when it is announced on here that on a particular day, the sale of alcohol is banned, for whatever reason it may be, religious, elections etc., the topics are inundated with posts from self righteous reformed alcoholics, who have nothing better to do than to preach about the 'evils' of alcohol.

I like a drink, and nobody is going to 'convert' me, but in all honesty, why do they bother ?

Because they're interested I guess. Just not in the way you want them to be.

It'd be pretty boring if all we did was agree with each other, after all.

I knew it would not take long, one minute !

I rest my case.

I am off out for a pint with proper friends now, not keyboard acquaintances.

Ta Ta.

There are other forums too...this is the largest, others are different and offer things ThaiVisa doesn't.

Such as.........?

Oh, I know one that lets a member ridicule folk who actually live in LOS, if thats what you mean...whistling.gif

Best to just kick back...open a beer and let the world drift by.

Most of us do, well I try too, until I am involved..Shame other folk have to deal in crap cos their life is crap...And I ain't talking about their, "purported" bank balance..

Learn to laugh at it. There's a thread about me in Smokie's news section. It's wonderful! The three main contributors include a former boiler room criminal (I remember him purely because he's the most incompetent fool I've ever come across), a former British policeman who exemplifies the Dunning-Kruger effect (in other words, he's too thick to realize just how thick he is), and a morbidly obese stalker who, without a hint of self-deprecating irony, describes people as social spastics.

You couldn't make this up if you tried!

You seems to be good informed...

Some of us are, AND have very good memories.............smile.png

Good that I have just positive memories about you...

I have checked out all the other forums and have joined most of them but in the end I can’t find any reason to post or become active on them and some have died in the meantime. It is not like I have any questions about Thailand or can’t find things on my own.

My interests are broad so there is a better chance of reading something entertaining or of interest on these pages. Having been on the receiving end of aggressive posters, I have come to appreciate the moderators and their efforts to reign in the bullies.
I know of at least one forum which was started out of enmity and loathing directed at my good self, so yes I would say ThaiVisa is my favorite forum.

you mean real issues not issies, right?

I don't get it. Issues as in issues. For health issues I see my doctor. For retirement/ financial issues I see my banker etc..

Other "issues" are just drivel that waste time.

What do I like on Thaivisa ? many people, everybody has different experiences, views and I like to read what other people think; for instance, about health, the Sheryl's advices bring much and only one doctor can't know everything about everything, same for retirement- financial issues, dozens of people have more to say than one person

there are other forums in other languages, among them my language, ( interesting for things concerning my specific country, like taxes, insurance, banks , administration, embassy ), but for the rest, Thai visa is really the best concerning Thailand and other subjects, and best of all, I improve my English here ( I understand at least 80% without my dictionnary )

Pavlov would be proud of this forum.

Members needing daily positive reinforcement to justify their existence and reasoning for all things Thai. (Whether right or wrong)

I think in a land far away from everyone's home, this positive reinforcement (right or wrong) is what gives people the strength to march on day after day and deal with all the less than desirable things they have to deal with in Thailand while telling themselves their life is still a Utopia in spite of everything tightening around them.

There is definitely some great threads on banking. Simple things like opening a bank account, which in the West is a doddle. But most foreigners who are just off the plane find this a huge challenge in Thailand. (If you are interested in the answer, it's if at first you don't succeed, keep trying with other branches/banks.)

Yep, with some threads there is thai bashing going on, but, there are also some nice threads on thai and english language (and tinglish), and I reckon these help build bridges. Think there is a forum on here dedicated to thai language (I could be wrong), and there's heaps of recommendations on how to learn thai, and methods to use.

Is it actually permitted to mention or recommend other forums on TV? I think if I do; ( there are a few smaller good ones), the hammer will come down.

To answer your question, no, it is not permitted:

13) You will not post links to other Thailand forums, or forums which could reasonably be construed as competition to Thaivisa.com or its sponsors.

But dont post on Friday Night...ok?....got that weegee?

Would love to know why so many on here changed their Username and Avatar so often?....biggrin.png

General Forum used to be the place to look first....now?...If it isnt moved, it's boring, and doesnt get the mob involved with one another...

Therefore the interest has slipped in that section quite a lot lately....i.e. no clicks...no sponsors. Not everyone bothers going to the Pub Forum everytime they log on

Apart from that, all is still well on here...thumbsup.gif

The bigger forum get, the harder it is to sort wheat from chaff. But conversely small forum can become moribund. There are other forum out there to which I contribute, but TV's the biggest.

That said I've faded in and out of TV over the years, shocking to realise that's over a decade now. There is a lot of negativity but it's easy enough to spot and avoid/skim the topics that are whinge magnets.

As a general rule it's usually best not to post after midnight!

I only see midnight once a year on New Year....so that leaves me out....I think!biggrin.png... Until the next day that is...

Not my favourite but definitely the most useful smile.png

Is your favourite a specialist forum?

Now that would be telling.

So its not a specialist one....

just tell us (if its specialist or a grand daddy, no need to name), we are all friends here.

Tv competition so can't name. Gt Rider is one I can, being a keen motorcyclist.

See you in ten minutes.

Looking at your previous posts, you never leave your keyboard, you are addicted to TV.

So your posts about how good taxis are, how good life in Thailand is etc. etc. are complete and utter bullshit.

After starting your post on the delights of Thai taxi drivers, you failed to comment on the post where the Thai man was stabbed by one of his own ?
