Anyone on the forum use AXA for their vehicle insurance?

Have any stories to tell - good or bad?

My pick-up is now 12 years old. Runs perfectly, especially since I had new tyres and wheel alignment done. But AIG won't give me 1st Class Insurance any more. "Too old" they say. "Can't get the parts" they say.

AXA will.

I don't like the thought of being involved in an accident and stuck in the middle of nowhere with no 1st Class cover for my pickup and having to make my own arrangements for getting the vehicle to a garage.

So, any experiences with AXA, anyone?

Had DELETED on my old dmax. 2+ coverage. Had it totaled by a bus. DELETED dicked me around for 6 months, then returned the truck with a blown motor. They the replace the motor with a used one. Cost them more in the long run than if they payed me the insured amount in the beginning. But they watch their pennies. I promptly sold it. Won't use them again, I now use the same company the bus had, they were very prompt and efficient. Viriyah insurance, they also seem to be the largest in Thailand.

Defamation is the issuance of a statement about another person or business which causes that person to

means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading
picture, or by propagation by any other means. Defamation is both a civil and criminal charge in

I remember Viriyah. I'll give them a call.

I am with AXA, no claims and/so no complaints. Was with Viriyah previously, one claim and will in the future avoid them at all cost.

Thanks for your input stevenl.

I've only made one claim with AIG - my first claim ever (Thailand and UK) - and it went well. I don't understand this "too old for 1st class insurance" attitude.

The claim this year resulted in second hand / refurbished parts (radiator) being fitted. I had no problem with that. The garage couldn't find the correct bull-bar so fitted an oversize one. rolleyes.gif

QBE aren't interested in giving me a quote either - just third party, no fire, no theft. blink.png

I have same situation with my 12 yr old Ford Ranger. Had refusal for Class A with my previous insurer (V...) but talked to local agent for AXA here in Phuket, got the Class A with AXA for less than I was paying at previous insurance co. Very much recommend my agent, USA gent raised in Thailand so fluent Thai (PM me if want contact). Note that my AXA policy also has free roadside service, was useful when had flat tire and inadequate jack.

If you have an old car you are wasting your money getting 1st class coverage. Note that most insurance companies will agree to help you waste your money in that regard.

I don't understand your logic here. So long as it's a standard 1st class policy, with 10M coverage for 3rd party property damage, how is it a waste?

I bet the first time you hit a European car, you'll wish you had bought 1st class insurance wink.png

First class insurance has nothing to do with 3rd party cover.

The main reason I want first class in this land of beautiful English speakers rolleyes.gif, is so that it is all taken care of by the insurance company guy. I was even thinking of joining a roadside service provider if all I could get was third party. I simply do not want to be stuck in the middle of Nakhon Nowhere wondering who to call. But keeniau96's cover deals with that issue.

The idea behind Class 1 insurance for a farang is that if you are involved in an accident you do NOTHING, the Class 1 deals with everything..

Exactly. thumbsup.gif

I think he means, if you hit an expensive European car and your third party + Por Lor Bor doesn't cover the repair cost... biggrin.png

Sure it does. As does 2nd class, but with less 3rd party property damage.

If that is the issue, get proper 3rd party insurance.

All sorted. AXA 1st Class Insurance + Roadside Service (flat tyre, run out of fuel, breakdowns) for about the same as AIG would have charged for 1st Class if they'd given it.

All done through http://www.insurance-in-thailand.com/

Would you like to post a pic of insurance details showing the cover and the price please.

Thanks ...I'll look into that as we have decided to keep my wifes old car as a run-a-round

For a similar but newer vehicle, and similar cover but with increased levels (2MB/10MB bodily injury, 5MB property, 470kB vehicle value), I pay 11,450B after various discounts amounting to about 60%.

AXA reckon to get to an accident/call out within 30 minutes in places like Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai etc. God knows how long they would take to get to Nakorn Nowhere. Hopefully I will never find out.

It's always good to have a back-up vehicle, especially in Phuket where taxis are either non-existent or a total rip-off.

Mine is a 7+ year old Yamaha Nouvo bike. I rarely use it so it has only 3,500 km on the clock. biggrin.png

My No Claims Bonus is down to 40% because I had a claim this year. I've been paying around 8,000 or just under for the last several years, but the loss of an extra 10% NCB means it would have been around 10,000 if AIG had insured it 1st Class. But as they wouldn't, I went to AXA for about the same cost. And AXA give the Roadside Service for free, which is nice.
