UDD leader claims government is fully aware of Rajabhakti park project from the beginning

BANGKOK: -- Red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan claimed on Wednesday that the government was fully aware of the construction of Rajabhakti Park from the beginning and the costs of the construction came from national budget and public donations.

The chairman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) said that both Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan had acknowledged and were involved with the park project all along.

He claimed that 1,600 million baht were transferred from the military budget for the project as the initial fund. Public donations came after the establishment of Rajabhakti Park Foundation on September 16 this year, he said.

Jatuporn said it appeared both General Prayut and General Prawit understood that only public donations were used in the construction of the park without any national budget being used.

He said the prime minister could not deny that the government was not involved in the project, citing the publication of over 11,000 copies of a book featuring Thai history and former Thai kings by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the fact that the prime minister presided over a worshipping ceremony at the park on August 19.

The prime minister, said Jatuporn, must be held accountable for what went wrong with the project. He demanded that the prime minister clarify the matter to clear the air.

Government was involved does not mean corruption can't happen along the way, red shirts always so afraid of being scrutinized and investigated. I mean why didn't the PTP do the same too for schemes involving the opposition? Were they to lazy to do so because investigating anything will always put them in the hot seat too?

The government does not investigate corruption, the NACC does. The NACC (previously named the NCCC) was formed by an organic act in 1999 and has been responsible for investigating corruption since then - perhaps you should redirect your ire in the correct direction?

Hopefully this character will finally be put in jail where he belongs.

You condone the corruption of the Rajabhakti Park project.

Khun Eric, you do more than 'condone' the pot calling the kettle black...! Of course, ALL cases of corruption and graft should be exposed, AND severely punished, whichever 'colour' they could be associated with, especially green and brown I'd say, ...but Jatuporn saying it, of all people!

Why doesn't the UDD have their press releases made by some leaders who were not involved in criminal activities? When the, honest, answer would be because there are none such in UDD, then I would say this is the problem with UDD, and consequently of all its supporters, including you, who accept to be represented by such scum, and very sad that is!

If he has proof let him bring it on. I dont like the guy but if he can prove there is corruption let him do it.

Why does he need proof? The head of the Commission and Deputy Minister of Defence who was in charge has already admitted there were irregularities....

Jatuporn, the well know UDD liar.....

Mr Jatuporn, if you are evidence show us, if no, shut your mouth....

True, in the past he regularly claimed to have evidence about numerous things, never seen.

Why does he need evidence, the head of it has already confessed to irregularities!!

You condone the corruption of the Rajabhakti Park project.

Intentional sophistry or genuine inability to recognize the difference between what is connected and what's not?

He comments on the out on bail non elected red shirt leader, the unusually rich fat Jat.

He doesn't comment on the project you so your statement is conjecture.

The BP has a good infogram on this.

Jat is trying to link it to the PM and government and ought to back up his claims with supporting evidence. For a man on bail, he's courting defamation too.

Seems like he's had an instruction to say something.

They have. But Jat is trying to smear the PM and deputy PM.

He is a big boy and well aware of the defamation laws, where even if he has evidence, it won't necessarily be a defense. Presumably as he's still on bail for his terrorism charges, and has got away with breaches of bail in the past, he probably believes in another above the law.

Never heard him question why Yingluck and her cousin have never ever answered the Ombudsman's questions on the illegal issuing of a new passport to their criminal fugitive sibling. Guess his concern for "truth" is one sided.

I'm not sure you are allowed to say such things of the General, but I do agree.

Yep, yep, yep...it's dereliction of duty when Yingluck does it, but when the army does it, there are no repercussions.

Just the continuation of the good ol' red VS yellow bias BS we have been seeing for the last 10!

Reconciliation...lol
