EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday night it is more important than ever for citizens to serve the public good in whatever way they can after the Islamic State group's attack on Paris last week.

He told a crowd at a Michigan State University public service forum that the job of those not in the U.S. military is to "make something good happen." He said national borders look "more like nets than walls" and people make decisions every day that either "bring us together or tear us apart."

"By doing nothing, we're contributing to the latter outcome. People feel unseen, unheard. They wind up screaming, they become vulnerable in this case to the extremist siren songs of ISIS, and you know what happens," Clinton said.

"We are condemned to share the future with our neighbors around the corner, in the Upper Peninsula, across the country and around the world," Clinton said. "We cannot change that."

He is the first recipient of the Spartan Statesmanship Award for Distinguished Public Service, which was created along with the forum by former Michigan Gov. Jim Blanchard and his wife, Janet, through a $1 million donation to the university. The school is joining the Clinton Global Initiative University and offering a minor in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Clinton spoke little of the 2016 presidential race but joked he cannot say whatever he wants in speeches anymore since his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is running.

What jackassery- "more important than ever for citizens to serve..." Wrong! It is more important than ever for government to do the job for which they are constituted, instead of usurping collective will for a some elitist cabal keen on abolishing borders.

Bill Clinton? Are you serious? This is one of the most screwed up, highest level, revelations of all that is wrong with the western liberal/progressive playbook of eviscerating the West and giving our guts to strangers. Bill Clinton is effectively saying that we are not doing enough, that this Paris attack evidences some mythical fork in the road a jihadi must pause and choose to walk. It is here at this junction we must intervene for the jihadi, assuage his sense of identity and assimilation, and reach out to him, with heart, and invite him further into our fold- lest he hear the siren song of IS and choose that path. What utter BS! Millions upon millions have not caused this to happen. This entire modern jihad, as pertains to its penetration of the West, is entirely caused by the progressive playbook. How dare he self righteously indict Americans because jihadis choose death.

"We are condemned to share the future..." with radical islam, sharia states, etc. is a fait accompli according to BClinton; but this is bullocks. It is a choice; the progressive choice. There is no damn reason to presume this at first-glance-wise-drivel is true at all. "We are condemned..." that paradoxical inevitability- to share the future with [jihadis] and we should therefore accommodate or embrace them more with... stuff and choices, so they choose the correct fork in the road! Preposterous. No wonder America is spinning in circles- its going down the toilet.

This is the polished gem of the "Jobs for Jihadis" mantra- that we can do more such as redistributing our wealth to them, providing jobs, money, training, etc to battle terrorism.
