6 month visa expired

Featured Replies

Hi guys, looking for some clarification about my wife's visa.

She had a six month marriage visa, but now has a 30 month leave to remain bio-metric UK ID card (we married and now have a baby)

my question is......now that the original 6 month visa stuck in her passport has expired, does the ID card replace this

eg, if we go to Thailand for a holiday is the UK ID card all we need to get her in and out of Thailand, or do we need to update her passport/visa?

cheers guys

Willie

Hi Willie,

I have to be the dumbest guy on this forum, LOL, but I can't tell what the nationalities are of either you or your wife. The experts will be along to help but they will need to know those two things for sure.

Cheers.

sorry, my wife is Thai....she has the UK ID card leave to remain until 2018 :)

cheers

Yes, the ID card now replaces a visa stuck in her passport. Make sure you take the card and passport when leaving/entering the country.

When you married and she applied for and was subsequently granted Further Leave to Remain her original marriage/fiance visa was automatically cancelled and her FLR took over.

As CharlieB says, the card replaces the vignette which used to be stuck inside one's passport.

Pedantry time, though.

It is not a biometric ID card (they haven't existed since 21/1/2011 and were issued to British citizens), it is a biometric residence permit.

She doesn't need it to leave and enter Thailand, her Thai passport will suffice for that; but will need it, plus her passport, to enter the UK. When checking in to leave Thailand, though, the airline will want to see it as proof she has leave to live in, and therefore enter, the UK.

She may also need it for other purposes in the UK; to prove she is entitled to NHS treatment or to work, for example.
