Khunying Jaruvan sentenced to 2 years in prison

So it is no more Khunying then - what a loss of face!

I would assume that she will be stripped of this title as she stole money from HM The King's government. The very same institution she was elected into by voters and the Head of State even bestowed a title onto her she definitely does not deserve anymore - always provided she is guilty as charged and the appeal falls through.

hmm should those who promise reform, end to corruption, return of happiness and democracy be arrested for false promises? Surely amount they have scooped up more than this sum....

It probably won't be fake! The

Lady is already 70 years old! She may not last long enough to get to the appeals court verdict.

I bet that happens quite often. She just got caught Using stolen money to gain enlightenment Is not a wise Idea. The bible is very very clear on this. Thieves will never stand before god. I dont have to explain that further.....

Wrong tradition. In Buddhism there is no judging god. The law of karma works without judging or blaming. Causes have effects, that's all there is to it. Some effects we like, some we don't. On the other hand in Thai folklore there is a judging god of the dead Than Yama Baan. I don't know how much Thais actually worry about him. He has two assistants, one keeps a ledger of all your evil deeds and the other keeps a ledger of all your good deeds. After you die you appear before him and they read out the contents of their ledgers and he decides what your next rebirth will be. There was a long-running early evening soap opera a year or so ago, I think 6:00 to 7:30, Mon-Fri. Very fun.

Yes, that's the point. She'll be out on bail while the process goes on. Could easily take twenty or thirty years.

And this is why ladies and gentlemen, it's good to a government official where even if you have finally

sent to jail, you still get to go home and drag and appeal the case until everybody concern with the

case dies of forgotten what the case was all about.

It's incredible. From 2003.... ? And finally sentenced to jail, but out and about...

No, they were charged in September this year, not 2003, so the sentencing process was very efficient.

Is this true, can anybody substantiate this or provide a link? I doubt that a justice system in any country, much less Thailand, is geared up to give a verdict through a normal (not fast track) court system within 60 days. And that too for a crime committed 12 years ago.

Her crime is all the greater because of her position. She was the one pointing the finger at others and all the while ripping off the taxpayers. Prison is not enough ( in the unlikely event she ever serves a day), she should be fined miliions and stripped of her honorific title.

So now she has finally had her day in court as a liar and a thief, should her testimony against other people be redacted being the liar she has been proven to be???

The other thing is, why only 2 years for falsifying official documents that resulted in tax payers money being lost, but if you are old and poor and you pick mushrooms you get 15 years? or say bad things about police here and you get 8 years, Yu'p real justice here people

And yet the waste of a thousand times as much is OK by you and your hypocrite mate?

However the Court noted that as senior government officials, they were entitled to ask for release on bail.

All the more reason to double the jail time.

Beat me to it. You would think that as Government officials, senior ones at that, they would be made an example of.

It's the senior government officials that actually set the example, and, as is the case in this country, the example is one of corruption and preferential treatment gained from such seniority.

Maybe they should reinvestigate the massive house, she said

she built for 3 Million THB,

even the investigators are corrupt here, what hope for a fair

and just society.

NONE. Lost Cause Thailand.

Time to learn from Singapore. If you are convicted you go straight to jail. If you appeal and lose you get some time extra adding the first sentence for blocking the court.

And IMHO this 'privilege' should not even exist and should be near the top of the list of reforms, meaning cancellation.
