BANGKOK: -- After introducing a number of incentives, the Thailand government is expecting Japanese investors to help boost activity in the country. Many of the incentives are focused on industrial cluster development and high technology.

The Board of Investment secretary-general Hiranya Sujinai said that the board was confident investors from Japan would increase their investments. The secretary-general’s remarks came after a meeting on Monday, chaired by Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister, in preparation for a roadshow in Japan.

Companies from Japan have been approaching the Board of Investment to inquire about the targeted incentives in industrial clusters and high technology. Japanese investor applications are number one among foreign investors requesting information about BoI incentives. As a result, Japan is the biggest foreign investor in the country during the first 10 months of this year.

According to Mrs. Hiranya, over 1000 Japanese investors will attend a special seminar in a Tokyo hotel that promotes investment in Thailand.

The Board of Investment continues to attract Japanese investors, especially in electronics, automotive, aviation, high technology and parts, says Mrs. Hiranya.

"Thailand government is expecting Japanese investors to help boost activity in the country...Companies from Japan have been approaching the Board of Investment to inquire about the targeted incentives..."

:"Expecting" and "Approaching the Board of Investment to inquire..." does not translate into "Excited"

The first is wishful thinking and the second is what is considered a normal business practice outside of Thailand. Just because they are responsible and do not invest their money without fully researching every aspect of their proposed projects, does not mean they are excited and ready to make a commitment.

Just more self-aggrandizing, which is normal practice in the LOS.

It is wonderful to see that investors from a REAL democratic constitutional monarchy can generate such investment enthusiasm for Prayut's Thailand. Next to english, money is the universal language and the Japanese investors seem to understand both well.

I wish them the best of fortune with their 49% stakes in Thai businesses.

Japanese people are the most indirect people I have ever come across, was married to one for 7 years, am fluent in their language and lived and did business there for near a decade. This has absolutely nothing to do with my hopes and dreams for Thailand and everything to do with my personal findings. Also, your day has got bog all to do with any of it.
