French PM calls for opposition vote in bid to stop National Front election win

PARIS: -- France’s mainstream political parties are scrambling to stop the rise of the far-right National Front – after its historic first-round lead in regional elections.

In a bid to make sure Marine Le Pen’s party does not win the final round on Sunday, the ruling Socialists have pulled out of two regions where they came third.

Supporters are being told to back Nicolas Sarkozy’s conservative Republicans instead.

“I take responsibility. This is the main difference between us and Nicolas Sarkozy, between me and Sarkozy,” said Manuel Valls, French Prime Minister.

“When you’re a public person, you have to take responsibility and make a choice.

“When you love a country, you don’t hesitate, we go straight ahead and we call for a vote for the Republicans.”

The National Front came first in six of 13 regions in the first round vote – its best showing ever. It bolsters Le Pen’s position as a serious contender for the 2017 presidential election.

“The Socialists took a decision that I respect, it’s their choice and they did it without us asking them anything,” said Sarkozy.

“They were very clear about their decision. And us, we chose to keep our lists.”

The National Front has been boosted by fears over last month’s deadly attacks in Paris. But it has also been gaining ground for years among voters frustrated about unemployment and immigration – and who are disillusioned by mainstream politics.

What is the similarity between Le Pen and Trump? The voters are sick to the back teeth with the usual political parties and are looking to anyone that will provide change from business as usual.

This shows how cynical the big parties have become, and they should be afraid, very afraid. The voters have had enough, and they aren't going to take it anymore.

Truth is even if all muslims were stopped from entering any country, or even if they were all kicked out.. it will not stop a war or terrorism or a counter attack... There are plenty of ways to bomb a country without being a citizen, or to attack its cistizens when they are on holiday... after all lets not forget, we all like to travel... These little ideas and strong words may sound appealing to someone angry and wanting to hit back, but if you look at the bigger picture here, its just retarded!

If you kick out ALL muslims which is impossible you would stop all muslim terrorism. Just that is impossible.

Even Ms Le Pen, who has caused such frothing recently on Thaivisa, has not suggested stopping all muslim immigration. According to her manifesto she would like to see the number dropping from a quarter of a million per annum to 10,000 per annum. In other words genuine refugees - yes, economic migrants and welfare chasers - no. Why is that so upsetting? It's plain common sense.

I would favor a more draconian enforcement until like DT said, we can figure out what the heck is going on. I liken the leftys attitude to lets just throw 5 sharks into the kiddies swimming pool, they probably ate already. My plan would be to put the sharks into their own pool - or better still release them from whence they came, and allow the kiddies their pool without any sharks. You see, the sharks have no benefit in the children's pool so why go through the effort of introducing something that makes a situation hazardous?
