3 mth dependency visa

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the Thai Embassy in Vientiane does a 3 mth dependency visa for looking after Thai children for 1500 bht ?

I have heard a marriage certificate and children's birth certificates are required..can anyone verify such information ?

  • Yes. As long as you have the birth certificate.

  • I suggest you do nothing which potentially further complicates your situation. AFAIK there are no legal "bypass" mechanisms that could be used.

  • If you go our and back you can extend the 30 day entry at immigration for 30 days. They will not be that stringent for proof of residence for the 30 day extension as they are for the 60 day extension.

You can apply for a single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai that will allow a 90 day entry., The fee is 2000 baht.

You will need their birth certificate showing you as their parent plus a copy and a copy of their house book registration.

You can apply for a single entry non immigrant 'O' visa to visit a child or wife if married. You would need either the original marriage/birth certificate and a copy depending on which you apply for. It's 2,000 baht and gives a 90 day permit to stay on entry.

If you are not legally married you can still apply for a visa to visit your child.

Thank you all very much...the info is very much appreciated

If i am married can i still get the dependency visa ?

To get the visa you could use either reason. In reality there is no dependency visa.

The answer is here !

There is no "dependency visa" only an "O" visa which can be issued to those who qualify.

Does that mean every 90 days i have to go out and come back in again ?

You can get a multiple entry non-O as married from the consulate in Savanakhet.

Each entry will give you 90 day permission to stay.

Does that mean every 90 days i have to go out and come back in again ?

If you are getting one based for being a father that will be your only choice. But you could get a 60 day extension at an immigration office to visit your child that would give you about 5 months of total stay without needing to leave the country.

For marriage you could easily get a a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet with no financial proof that would give you unlimited 90 day entries for a year.

You can get a multiple entry non-o in Penang based upon being your child's father if you can show at least 100k baht in the bank.

Does that mean every 90 days i have to go out and come back in again ?

Question - do you have the 400,000 in the bank to apply for an extension to a current Visa inside of thailand?

Read the post from Ubonjoe above.

A single entry "O" visa allows only ONE entry which permit's a stay of 90 days only !

If you follow PoorSucker,s advice (above) the visa will allow multiple stays of 90 days but you must leave every 90 days to obtain a New 90 day entry

You can only a single entry visa from Vientiane. It gives one entry of 90 days after which you need to exit the country or apply for a 60 day or 1 year extension of stay. Once you've left the country a new visa would be needed.

It would help to know what your plans are.

Some offices won't let you apply for an extension of stay to visit your child if you are married. They want you to apply on the basis of being married.

If you don't have the co-operation of your wife then you probably won't be able to get a 1 year extension of stay. You should be able to get a 60 day extension with the birth certificate.

Sounds like you need a multi entry visa which you can only get from Savannakhet or Penang.

Alternatively as you live in Nong Khai you could get a single entry visa from Vientiane and extend it by 60 days which will give you 5 months. Then every 5 months go in to Vientiane for a new visa.

The rules state 40k baht or 400k baht.

The Nong Khai office is known for coming up with some strange rules of their own.

Can you show at least 40k baht coming into a Thai bank account every month to show along with your income letter. I can recall NK immigration telling people they wanted that.

i would try penang for a 1 year, multi entry

bring bankbook with as much cash as you can in it, but with records of the regular influx showing

birth cert signed by you

mothers id copy signed

your passport

i use Jims place as my agent never failed me about 1000 baht more

gets you unlimited multi entries, if you leave and a few days before final entry thats essentially 15 months, plus another 2 if you can be bothered to extend in thailand.

i come and go alot for business, and this is painless for me, honestly couldnt tell you the cost though i think its around 6k .

caveat: you do have to leave the country, but i do that anyways.

I gave NK the income verification letter from the UK Embassy and also statements showing the overseas income...in his words..."i will let you apply under the 40k rule just once and next time you will have to get 400k....because the government wants people with money to stay in Thailand "

You should open a bank account here and make regular transfers into it as I wrote earlier. That will satisfy NK immigration. They want proof you are actually bringing the money into the country.

I have that already and i showed them all of that...he wanted the 400k....

My Krungsri account has 130,000 bht coming in every month.....

I think the immigration officer was just being difficult. If they let you use your income for the first extension they will allow it for 2nd one,

  • 2 months later...

Now i am living in Si Racha with my kids and the wife is still in USA....does anyone know if there is a closer option than Vientiane with less financial commitments than Penang ?

You should be able to get a 60 day extension to visit your children for a fee of 1900 baht at immigration. You would need your children with you when you apply.

If you have your marriage certificate and copies of your wife's house book and ID card you could get a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet.

There is no embassy or consulate closer than that to get a visa.

You have to go to the immigration office for where you are living.

They will likely ask you for proof of residence and a TM30 form from the owner. You are responsible to see that it is done.
