Document translation

Featured Replies

About to apply for the wifes family visit visa to the UK, not expecting any issues as have done this half a dozen times before. In the past we have never bothered getting documents such as marriage certificate and house ownership documents translated. Will we still get away with this? if not, does anyone know somewhere where we can get this done online without having to go into Bangkok. Tried using the add on Thai visa forum but once form completed the link seems broken

Many thanks for any help

From Visitor: supporting documents guide:

If you submit a document that is not in English or Welsh, it must be accompanied by a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office. Each translated document must contain:
 confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original document
 the date of the translation
 the translator's full name and signature
 the translator's contact details

Difficult for the translator to sign it if done online; unless they sign it then post it to you. I doubt that UKVI would accept a scanned copy or a printed email.

That is the official position, but anecdotal evidence on this forum and others suggest that, in Bangkok at least, they still accept official documents, such as marriage certificates, without a translation.

To be sure, I always do provide translations; but it's up to you.

I cannot recommend a particular translator; but any translator will do, they do not have to be in Bangkok. Is there no one where you live who could do it?

Though remember that you, or at least your wife, will have to go to Bangkok anyway to submit the hard copy of the application and her supporting documents and have her biometrics taken.
