I have recently moved from Bangkok to the Chayapoum area. Can I move my account from the Bangkok branch to the Chayapoum branch without changing the account number?

The reason I ask is that I have previously been told that some services, like getting a letter confirming my acc. balance, can only be done by your own branch. I can't change the acc number as I have regular money from the UK paid in monthly.

I suspect not as the account number includes the branch code. You might be better off opening a 2nd account and doing a monthly internet banking transfer from Bangkok to Chayapoum.

No you can not - the first 3 digits of account number is the branch location - so you would have to establish a new account locally - you could then transfer funds as required or change deposit account number in UK as if using Bangkok Bank they can send to any branch using account number. But any branch can obtain letter of account balance, either directly issued or by mail account source or head office.

The most important reason for having a local account is to avoid out of area changes it using ATM or making frequent transactions.

Thanks for the info guys.

How do I get internet banking facilities with BB?

That may be the solution. The Chaiyaphum branch even charge me to deposit money!

If a transfer across regions there are changes involved with most banks here (TMB advertises they do not charge anymore so perhaps at some others will catch up with the computer world).

You must fill out application at branch for internet banking (and expect them to say no or Thai only or Work Permit only in many cases) - just let them know that is not the case and ask them to check - in my case they agreed to submit under my Thai wife name but main office who have to approve immediately issued under mine (joint account). Takes a week or so for password exchange.

Just keep that account and add another account in your new location'

they will change the adress for both and you can use internet banking for transfers.

No you can't move the account number from one branch to another.

As mentioned above, just open another account in the new place and get internet banking. If you can afford to keep the minimum amount in the other so that you don't get charged a monthly fee for non-use it's often worth keeping open. You'll just need to make some form of transaction every year e.g. small 1 baht transfer via internet banking between 2 accounts. Otherwise it goes dormant and gets frozen from non-use.

Life changes and you could well find it was easier to close the account than when you want to open a similar one in the future. I've closed accounts in the past, and found later that it might have been useful for something else, but opening again is a pain LOL

Just do it when you open the account at a branch.

TIP Bangkock bank branches in the Central Malls generally are more used to foreigners and do things easier....not so much no can do.
