Phuket Newspapers

Anybody still buy one ?

For me only time is at the airport for something to read while on the plane to ..abc...

A lame question , but hey ho just curious.

Has been a long time since I saw a person of any age reading a paper newspaper in the cafe, and I visit them quite often.

Im not interested in real estate ads and last months news.

The print editions here are nothing more than classfieds.

I have a computer illiterate, British friend who buys the papers daily.

Both local and Bangkok - the Post?

He keep up with world events, albeit a little delayed, and loves the crosswords.

I know people that buy the Saturday edition of the Bangkok Post, but, only for the cross-word.

I buy the International New York Times and Bangkok Post every day and the Phuket Gazette and News every week. I also read the Guardian, The Economist, The New Yorker and New York Magazine on-line. Just a (pinko) dinosaur I guess - and a news junky.

I don't buy paper newspapers. Haven't done that for years.

In a way I miss the world, where the information was not as instant as it is today. With slow news, maybe we would not feel the need to keep up with the news. Also maybe the news items would have more time to mature, not to be needed to be corrected later on.

My understanding of the Phuket newspapers is that to print a paper copy is more expensive than the price of the purchase. Paper copies are used to sell the advertisements, based of.. how many copies of the newspaper has been sold.

Phuket Wan went from paper & news site to paperless blog format some years ago. They are closing the Phuket Wan within next couple of weeks. I guess it was not the way to go, at least how the paper was managed.

As a whole. Phuket newspapers, as they are small, can not really say anything what is worth of saying in this island. It frustrates the folks who wish to stand by the normal journalistic standards. That has been and still is impossible due the current defamation laws.

There is no brighter future to be seen in the horizon.

I never saw the print edition of Phuketwan. Thats news to me. :)

There was a green coloured newspaper for some years. There was also Phuket Post, which unfortunately did not last for long.

Agree, I don't think there ever was one. But that's IMO a minor detail in Oilinki's post.
