NLA President believes PM prepared for possibility of new charter getting voted down in public referendum

BANGKOK, 21 December 2015 (NNT) - The President of the National Legislative Assembly is confident that the Prime Minister is prepared for a situation in which the new draft charter fails to pass the public referendum.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said on Sunday, that the legislature’s future trips to visit people in other provinces will need to be stepped up in order to make sure everyone has an accurate understanding about the new Constitution and the following public referendum.

Mr. Pornpetch stated that the charter drafters have already been doing their best to meet all the goals laid down by the National Council for Peace and Order in order that the new charter will pass the referendum.

He added that the NLA has decided to take on the responsibility of talking to the public in order to clarify all the issues on their minds.

In the event that the new draft fails to pass the public referendum, the NLA President said that an assessment must be made to determine the reason and the NCPO will have to consider an answer to the situation.

Even so, Mr. Pornpetch believes the PM already has a back-up plan ready to handle such a development, which may include an amendment of the Provisional Constitution of 2014.

What is the point of draftin a constitution, conductin a referendum they know will fail, and then sittin down again for another round of draftin a new constitution? In the mean time, the country is in the doldrums, farmlands a-wastin, fisheries industry a-dryin, investment funds - a-flyin?

They have to do something to keep themselves in a job as there won't be elections anytime soon...

"the PM already has a back-up plan ready to handle such a development, which may include an amendment of the Provisional Constitution of 2014."

The NCPO doesn't need to amend anything. It can just create a Provisional Constitution of 2016, 2017, 2018 and so on until the Thai people accept the NCPO goals.

Can someone tell me why on the Prime Ministers Friday Night talks. They write the Date 2015 - 2020.

Does this mean they will stay in Power for 5 years ? If you don't know do not answer, please. Not sure if I missed something; about these dates.

thanks

They fully expect it not to pass. It's all part of their plan to stay in power.

Thats as obvious as the nose on your face. Quote Mr. Pornpetch stated that the charter drafters have already been doing their best to meet all the goals laid down by the National Council for Peace and Order in order that the new charter will pass the referendum. unquote. Here is the fly in the ointment.

It's interesting how the NLA is doing it's part for junta propaganda, and making the point that the current self-appointed "PM" will need to stay due to the fact that "the people" (his appointed minions) cannot finalize a new (anti-)democratic charter...

Along the same lines, the CDC did it's part recently on promoting junta propaganda in a different area - this time on "good reasons" to muzzle the press

This junta is just using familiar old tools of propaganda and oppression to continue its rule ... into the foreseeable future... coffee1.gif
