webfact
NLA President believes PM prepared for possibility of new charter getting voted down in public referendumBANGKOK, 21 December 2015 (NNT) - The President of the National Legislative Assembly is confident that the Prime Minister is prepared for a situation in which the new draft charter fails to pass the public referendum.NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said on Sunday, that the legislature’s future trips to visit people in other provinces will need to be stepped up in order to make sure everyone has an accurate understanding about the new Constitution and the following public referendum.Mr. Pornpetch stated that the charter drafters have already been doing their best to meet all the goals laid down by the National Council for Peace and Order in order that the new charter will pass the referendum. He added that the NLA has decided to take on the responsibility of talking to the public in order to clarify all the issues on their minds. In the event that the new draft fails to pass the public referendum, the NLA President said that an assessment must be made to determine the reason and the NCPO will have to consider an answer to the situation.Even so, Mr. Pornpetch believes the PM already has a back-up plan ready to handle such a development, which may include an amendment of the Provisional Constitution of 2014. -- NNT 2015-12-
Thailand
And now, in 2031, it was confirmed that the ptb considered it was possible that the new charter may get voted down for the 23rd time.
waldroj
Just part of the game! You either get to accept a bias charter at the referendum (in the hope that elections may follow), or you reject the charter and guarantee you will continue to be subjugated by junta-head. Go for it guys!

Eric Loh
That's a scary proposition when the fate of Thailand is in the hands of the PM to chart the constitution. Each day we are inching towards disaster.
toybits
What is the point of draftin a constitution, conductin a referendum they know will fail, and then sittin down again for another round of draftin a new constitution? In the mean time, the country is in the doldrums, farmlands a-wastin, fisheries industry a-dryin, investment funds - a-flyin? Srikcir
"the PM already has a back-up plan ready to handle such a development, which may include an amendment of the Provisional Constitution of 2014." The NCPO doesn't need to amend anything. It can just create a Provisional Constitution of 2016, 2017, 2018 and so on until the Thai people accept the NCPO goals. FangFerang
It's all a provisional temporary ad hoc version of the "Waiting Game". We all know what they are waiting for, and it has nothing to do with elections, reconciliation, pardons or promises. It's all a charade, and everyone knows it. tbthailand
It's interesting how the NLA is doing it's part for junta propaganda, and making the point that the current self-appointed "PM" will need to stay due to the fact that "the people" (his appointed minions) cannot finalize a new (anti-)democratic charter... Along the same lines, the CDC did it's part recently on promoting junta propaganda in a different area - this time on "good reasons" to muzzle the press This junta is just using familiar old tools of propaganda and oppression to continue its rule ... into the foreseeable future...
