An escort decides to shove you off the verandah.

You decide to cut your own throat with broken glass....or it's done for you by people who want your money.

Drunk Thai men beat you to death to reenact a similar murder for fun.

The wiring in the hotel electrocutes you.

Let's place this in perspective , there are more safer places than Thailand and there are less safer than Thailand and whilst in Thailand no tourists are allowed down deep south , why not, because it is not safe ,so , what is safe , nowhere really.............................................coffee1.gif

Ah really? Well the verdict of the Burmese 2 is on the 26th correct? (strategically dated to hope we forget I imagine).

Every man and his dog those 2 are innocent and that the force has been bought and paid for on several levels to protect the real culprits. So yes maybe 'touris' are safe, 'tourists' I'm not so sure.

Due on the 24th. There are no newspapers published in the UK on the 25th and peoples minds are not on the news. Coincidence?

As safe as you can be in the 3rd world. Was driving back home this evening and so many kids were flying round me on motorbikes without helmets since school has just closed. Some of them were doing some speed with no fear. Don't the parents talk to them to drive safely? Observation: not very safe at all!

And 14 or 16 killed on Chiang Mai tourist bus is safe............your call !

I haven't seen this major accident reported anywhere in TV, anyone like to have a guess why not?

To me this seems more important news than some of the other rubbish we seem to be being feed each and every day.

You are safe in thailand while the plane is approaching the arrival gate. Once inside you might get a popular notion to commit suicide. After you get into a taxi the death clock starts clicking. Safe is the mirage thailand wants you to see until you become another statistic.

A friend has an interesting take on what is happening here in Chiang Mai. Using the 300 meter rule, a high percentage of bars are being closed down by the police. It would seem that there is an underlying policy to "sanitize" the city, by removing much of the "night life." What you are left with is visits to temples, etc. during the day and staying in the hotels at night or provided escorted trips to other restaurants. What is happening on the ground appears intended to discourage young European tourists and promote tourists from China, Korea, and other Asian countries who do not want to party. I just came back from the U.S. through Seoul and the plane to Chiang Mai was, based on the people sitting around me, 90 percent of the passengers were middle age Korean tourists.

While many may not like it, if what is going on is the implementation of a Government Policy, then it would be the first such effort that that seems to have been well conceived and carried out without the usual hype and BS from the ministries.

Time will tell.

It is difficult, though not imposdible, to imagine what kind of douchebag farang would a) become a tourist police volunteer, b ) march in that parade, and c) willingly hold up the misspelled sign for the cameras.
