THAILAND -- Jasmine International plans to invest about 20 billion baht in the next three years from now to expand its mobile phone and wireless brandservices to increase its customer’s base to two million for the first year and five million for the third year, said Mr Pete Bodhamarik, the company’s chief executive officer, today (Monday).

Jasmine International is one of the two bidders which won the 900 megahertz spectrum licence at a bidding price of 75,654 million baht.

Speaking at a press conference today, Mr Pete defended that the bidding price, although viewed by several analysts as too high, was not too high and worthy. He said he would feel satisfied if Jasmine International could hold 10 percent of mobile phone market share estimated at about 300 billion baht per year.

Mr Pete further explained that the acquisition of the 900 megahertz spectrum for 4G service would plug Jasmine’s weak point for holding just the fixed broadband internet or 3BB license.

With the new license, he said the company would provide services in mobile phone, tablet and PC for both in-house and outdoor usages.

Data service, explained Mr Pete, is crucial for future services and only Jasmine and True Move are equipped with both data and voice services whereas AIS has just started to operate broadband service with limited customer’s base compared to Jasmine’s 8 million customers or two million households for 3BB service.

As far as network investment is concerned, he said that the company needs not have to spend a huge investment in this area because the firm’s 3BB service now covers 5,500 tambons throughout the country with several hundreds of thousands of hot spots.
