Grenade thrown at a police booth turns out to be a dud

THAILAND -- A hand grenade was hurled at a traffic police checkpoint in Narathiwat’s Rueso district today (Monday) by a suspected militant but it failed to explode.

Mr Pongchai Ruangnark, a worker manning a railway crossing barricade which is next to the police booth, told the police that he saw a pillion rider of a motorcycle hurl something which turned out to be a dud grenade at the booth.

About ten policemen were at the booth but the M26 hand grenade failed to explode and, hence, no one was injured.

The motorcyclist and the pillion rider escaped from the scene.
