Thai Prime Minister Say's he Won’t Tolerate Biased Criticisms from Irresponsible Journalists

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has told reporters that he will no longer tolerate biased criticisms from irresponsible newspaper columnists and has instructed security officers to invite them for talks aka an attitude adjustment at a military facility.

Prayut said the media should not accuse him of depriving them of free expressions as he had already made clear to them the limits of free expressions and media’s responsibilities.

The prime minister complained that his government had wasted time and energy trying to dispose the huge rice stocks left over from the rice pledging scheme and would not be held accountable for the losses from the scheme.

Irresponsible journalists..... Riiiiiiiiiiiight. So how exactly can one define an irresponsible journalist, seems very subjective to me. So basically if anything goes against the official line then you run the risk of being hauled in by the men in green. Brilliant way to go if you want to achieve a so called peaceful utopia. Clown

So key to destabilisation is simply put stuff out there he doesn't like.

If we say ""we are sick of coup leaders complaining about freedoms we reserve for ourselves "" and conclude""it's time we adjusted their attitude and called them over "" ...doesn't work right?

It's all about their absolute powers.

Protecting the Elite institutions ...winding back the clock to bygone days.

Fear, and power.

Bowing down.

In Thailand if we contact tens of thousands of Thais on twitter ....and place up the facts.

Not propaganda but cold hard facts.

Example .

Pictures of unearthed bodies in death camps.

Bamboo jails.

Slaves on boats.

Arrested students.

If they like these photos they potentially commit a crime.

Worse these guys don't even confine their activities to Thai soil.

Even in your own country in your own law parameters totally legally and subjected only to them.

Does this junta now claim jurisdictions over you.

They ask people be deported.

( obviously unless your in China or North Korea or some other rotten place for human rights it won't happen)

But none the less they try and get you for posting stuff as innocent as news articles critical of them.

That's irresponsible.

Reckless and unbalanced and unfair .

It is also what they claim it isn't.

Censorship.

The world should censor their planes from landing at our airports while they play such games.

Tit for tat.

It's completely not their right to hijack a country then have the audacity to ban the hostages it holds over from having an opinion.

Common sense tells you it's irresponsible to hijack democracies .

What right do they have to then tell the hostages to not even voice their obvious disapproval s.

What's wrong with Thai men anyhow?

Are they all cowards ?

Why don't they walk onto the streets and really voice their god given rights to be free?

Ok! Ok! So all the replies are accurate to some accord. But none are really thinking about what he could possibly be addressing. Everyone here knows there are some very biased reporters here. Just look at some of the news from The Nation prior to the coup. In regards to regulating what the public is told he is violating freedoms of speech. But in regards to the right wing hard core political activists who only print to make their parties look good and to spread lies and convince the ignorant their way is the only way then P would have a point in this comment. Some reporters have no ethics and don't care about reporting facts or the truth. Especially in Thailand.

No-one will be hauled away. They will be INVITED for talks. As it is merely an invitation, all they need do is say 'Thanks but no thanks' and I am sure that will be the end of the matter...

Journalists enjoy copying and pasting. This is almost exactly the same as this article from a few days ago:

BANGKOK: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said Friday that he would no longer put up with biased criticisms from some irresponsible newspaper columnists and had instructed security officers to invite them for talks.

He said the media should not accuse him of depriving them of free expressions as he had already made clear to them the limits of free expressions and media’s responsibilities.

The prime minister complained that his government had wasted time and energy trying to dispose the huge rice stocks left over from the rice pledging scheme and would not be held accountable for the losses from the scheme.

“Who did what about the rice pledging scheme should be held accountable,” he said.

He also urged voters to exercise their right when the new draft constitution is put up for referendum if they want to see changes in the Thai society.

So who decides if an article is "bias" or simply critical?

If there is an article written that is critical, but factual, would that be considered "bias"?

How's that investigation going on that envoy for a certain (___) charge that TVF usurers can no longer talk about?

Now clicking the "like" button on FB is considered "conspiracy", when the very word conspiracy, or to conspire, would be an act of planning BEFORE, rather than AFTER, so how can clicking the "like button AFTER a comment or photo be conspiracy?

The example given in a dictionary online is poetic, "He joined the conspiracy to overthrow the government".

To be fair, journalism is probably not an occupation worth putting much effort into, currently, as the only correct point of view is that of the state... Edited by baboon

So if you put yourself in the public arena the media will write stuff about you, that's the nature of public life.

If you don't like public comment then you should not have put yourself in that position in the first place.

Now is the media critical of other leaders of other country's? YES, are they called in for "attitude adjustments"? NO,, but this bloke thinks he should get a free pass.

So the difference between this bloke and other leaders of a country is what? So much for his 99.3% of the peoples satisfaction with his government.

If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen...............

The international community seems perfectly at ease with this style of government and diplomatic relations seem sound. The UN also seem quite happy with all here. On that basis I am left wondering if my view of freedom of speech was perhaps distorted and certainly need not have been included in the baggage I came here with.

"Thai Prime Minister Say's he Wont Tolerate Biased Criticisms from Irresponsible Journalists"

What if it's from responsible ones?

"Dear_. You are cordially invited to a champagne reception at _ military Base where a presentation will be made on the subject of future prospects for you and your family..."
