Hi all, so I've been living in Phuket and working away around the world for the last 7 - 8 years. I've got 10 years experience in this game and I've always had good jobs and work when I wanted it.... until the last 2 years! Is anyone else here finding it more difficult to get a decent gig recently? Is it also like this for the welding inspectors? I was thinking of going for my Cswip 3.1 and or getting my ropes again. If you have had the same issue what have you done about it, just took shitter jobs or moved in a different direction? I'm just curious?

Thailand is not one of the places to be looking. 99% of the positions are being filled by Locals Indian and Phillipino inspectors who work for 50% or less than yourself.

Oil at 30 bucks a barrel and still going south doesn't help either.

Check the reports on projects being shelved delayed etc.

Sorry to say but it's not good times for anyone in the industry at the moment.

After 7 yrs I would think one would have or should have saved a bucket load.

The market is laying people off by the hundreds ... even the Philippino's and the Indians cannot get work so an expat has little chance, I know 3 inspectors been looking for the last 12 months .....

Oil is at $28 a barrel ... rigs are shutting down everywhere so new starts are just not going to happen.

Look at other work ...

but everywhere is in a glut at this time unfortunately ....coffee1.gif

Heard a whisper that the above company are looking for NDT people, you could also upload your CV to www.oilopps.com

Just as a heads up, I've been with this company for 12 years. Currently all the NDT techs are Thai Nationals or Bangladeshi (depending on the contract). Best of luck.
