Harry Potter actor Alan Rickman dies

LONDON: -- British actor Alan Rickman, who was perhaps best known for playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, has died at the age of 69.

He often played villainous characters such as Hans Gruber in “Die Hard” and the Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” for which he won a Bafta award.

He had been suffering from cancer, his family said.

Rickman got his big break in acting when he appeared in the Broadway version of “Dangerous Liaisons” in the mid 1980’s.

In addition to the Potter films, he starred in “Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Truly Madly Deeply” and “Love, Actually”.

One of his last apperances was in “Little Chaos,” in which he co-wrote, directed and starred.

Great actor. Really liked him in Die Hard. More recently he became my favorite character in the Harry Potter series, which I just started watching with my kids.

Sad loss, great actor.

Both him & Bowie dead at 69 due to cancer. I probably speak for many here, that it certainly makes us very aware of our own mortality, and how fragile that mortality can be.

Another 69 year old legend POM croaks at the hands of this aweful disease. That's 2 this week.

Pity they don't pour all the money they waste on wars into a cure for cancer.

RIP Alan !

If there was an actor I really liked, it was Allan Rickman, saw his movie A little chaos, and was taken by the grace of his roll, an true actor, with a persona and air about him that you couldn't help but to like and sympathized with his acting rolls.... he will be sorely missed...

Even better to spend more on prevention. But there is an entire new generation of drugs on the horizon most of which are simply unaffordable: live a few extra years and then leave your family destitute. Those of us who decide to exit stage left quietly but yet with some dignity are ignored by the media and those who "fight the battle" and spend and then too die are put on a pedestal to encourage others to spend to the end.

I first saw him as Rev. Slope (??) in Barchester Chronicles (??) a long time ago. He was fascinatingly awful as an oleaginous social climbing vicar.

The best Sheriff of Nottingham, ever. "I'll cut his heart out with a spoon!",...hah!

"Why a spoon, cousin ? Why not an axe or.."

"Because, you twit... it's dull. It'll hurt more. "

Alan Rickman. Great actor..... will be much missed. Requiescat In Pacé

Goodbye Professor Severus Snape.

Millions of pounds are poured into fighting cancer, and plenty has been done over the years, to improve or cure. Its the nutters who continue to say cannabis oil cures all cancers. I am sure that Lemmy, Bowie, and other millionaires would have taken this oil for a cure.

DELETED

Rickman was always worth watching, whatever he appeared in. Hard to say that of most actors.

If we have to keep losing 69 year olds why couldn't it have been Trump?

RIP to both. I do wonder why people with money don't find out highly effective ways (non traditional to be sure) to stop making cancer.

Heck, there's an American dr in Bangkok doing it.

I also knew him as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Bang up job he did too. thumbsup.gif

He was excellent in most everything he did in film or onstage. Did you not see the Harry Potter films? Great fun even if you are in your retirement years. The first movie is lighthearted.... but as the movies, (and years) go by as Harry and his friends grow older through each year of school..... the stories become darker and more serious and grown-up.

Alan Rickman was a great Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. But he was also fantastic as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise.

I hope he has found peace....
