French Consulate in CM

Featured Replies

Has anybody worked/dealt with them.

I am thinking about a week in Paris in March or April. I can just go using my passport but my wife is Thai and needs a visa.

I emailed to the consulate for information/assistance about a week ago and have yet to receive a reply.

Are they hard to work with? It looks as if they only use 2 hours of the day to conduct business. With limited available hours I'd like to be as prepared as possible.

I have no idea whether it's a rubber stamp process or an ordeal.....

I used Star Visa when I got a Visa for my wife to the States. They are located on the same side of the street as thee American conciliate going away from the river. Just about to the next intersection.

They specialize in getting Visa's for Thai's to go to other countries.

Visas are not issued in CM. They are issued in Bangkok (through a company subcontracted by the French Embassy). You need to go to the French Embassy's web site and follow the instructions there. It is certainly very far from a rubber stamp process. The visa is a Schengen visa, valid for most European Union countries (and some others). Your wife will need to go to Bangkok at least once. One trip is required for the biometric records, and maybe a separate trip for an interview. It requires a lot of preparation, so apply well in advance.

You should use the "alliance francaise" for translation. 100% authorized. It is the office downstairs, same place as the consulat.

You could also try to use another Schengen country to enter that visa space. Just depends on the country you first set foot in. The German consulate for instance can issue visas here, they also do the biometric scans in Chiang Mai. No need to travel to Bangkok.

Do you know any other Schengen countries with biometrics, and visa issuing in Chiang Mai?
