DSI asked to speed up probing Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen abbot's Mercedes

BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation was today (Monday) urged by a former member of the National Reform Council to speed up investigation into a luxury car allegedly owned by Somdet Phra Maharatchamangalacharn, the abbot of Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen.

Mr Paiboon Nititawan submitted a letter urging for the speeding up of the probe into the case to Pol Lt-Col Paisith Wongmuang, the DSI chief.

He claimed that the public was doubtful about the Somdet Phra Maharatchamangalacharn’s alleged ownership of the car, a Mercedes Benz sedan, worth less than four million baht. He said that the probe was intended to clear up any suspicion that the car ownership was not illegal.

The senior monk was nominated by the Sang Supreme Council the 20th supreme patriarch at a secret meeting on January 5.

Mr Paiboon said he would meet with the ombudsman tomorrow with a request for him to interpret Section 7 of the monastic law regarding the procedure of the nomination of the supreme patriarch.

He contended that it should be the prime minister who nominate the supreme patriarch with the approval of the Sangha Supreme Council not the other way round.

The DSI chief meanwhile disclosed that the department was investigating two batches of luxury cars – one batch of 500 cars each worth more than 4 million baht and another batch of 5,000 units each of which is worth less than 4 million baht.

He said that Somdet Phra Maharatchamangalacharn’s Mercedes was among the second group. Registration of the car was revoked and it is now kept at a museum at Wat Pankan Phasi Charoen.

' Speed Up ' !

Now there's an expression that doesn't have much application here except on the highways of course.

No surprise though that even the appointment of the next Supreme Patriarch has all the necessary ingredients of power and control, intrigue and general horse trading. Thainess trumps everything including Buddhism.

That a wat has a museum of MB cars suggests to me that it has a history of supplying them to the abbot, religiously replaced when a new model becomes available.

He says speed up....

But what he is really saying is he did nothing wrong, so you should not investigate... just clear him...

Why does a monk need an expensive, vintage car in the first place?

If the car was offered as a gift, as a Buddhist and following the Buddha's teachings of leading a simple, frugal life, why accept this 'gift' at all?

While many monks don't have a pot to pee in, this guy is collecting vintage Benzes....

I'm sure the abbot has preyed to hard and devotionally that he was rewarded with a bunch

of antique motors... nothing wrong with it.... or is it?

And this is why I don't give to any thai Buddhist temples 99% of them are set up purely to enrich the monks/abbots. Last time I was dragged to a temple opening by my wifes work I got there and was horrified by how gaudy and over embellished the place was then they had the balls to ask me for a "donation" minimum 1000 bhat was told by wives work mate.

I gave nothing and ensured that on our way home everyone saw me buying rice and chicken for the 2 disabled beggers we saw when we stopped for lunch.

And pointed out that the temple did not need money but the poor and needy do.

I got looked at like I was fukin crazy as bat shut.

Buddisum in Thailand is so perverted and twisted it is sad...

This is nothing more than theft of money from nice people who make honest donations in return for prayer's to make them feel better. Horrible sick thieving MONKeys. Go steal your way into hell and burn a thousand time each day. May your nuts turn square and fester at the edges.

...whatever happened to the monk that fled in his private jet.... with maybe 1 billion dollars...after getting a few teenagers pregnant......

...God Help us all.....

Some monks will come from wealthy families, so many of these will have expensive items before they enter the temple as a monk. Just because a man is wealthy and has a collection of cars does not mean that he is a criminal or that he has done anything wrong.

What classier way to travel to Nirvana? Pink Bentley?

Man, you're the biggest broken record in TVF history. Is there any topic at all that will prevent you from posting something about the reds? How about the weather?

You seem quick to defend any red, even the malodorous Chalerm. Why is that? Does being elected (even if by party list payback to scum) over-ride criminality?

And where exactly have I ever defended Chalerm?? Anyone with any sense know he is one of the most heinous characters ever to disgrace the Thai parliament but that does not mean his name (or any other red) has to be brought up in connection with totally unrelated matters ad nauseam.

But since you play on "Broken Record" Trogers' team I guess you disagree.

Because he ostentatiously flaunts the laws regarding use of expensive motor vehicles. But look the other way, he's a red.

BTW you might not defend Chalerm, but you notedly don't criticize the party who appointed him DPM, or the electoral system that allowed it.

MZURF,if you think. he is so bad, why even raise your objection? ROLLS-BENTLEY? Seems an appropriate association to me! So where is Inspector Clouseau these days, anyway? Sometimes I almost miss his outrageous outbursts.

We have all seen it, Wats that are "themed", mostly to an animal: Wat Elephant, Wat Tiger, Wat Buffalo. This one is simply Wat Merc...

Wat LV and Wat Chanel are quite cleverly hidden still...

Slim pickings for a group here nowadays that they have to bring in an off topic character to sustain their existence in the forum.

Wouldn't your post be better located in the topic "Other Posters' Posting Habits"?

We are discussing Hi-so flaunting their wealth through expensive vehicles.

Prince Siddharta came from a princely family with unbelievable riches. However, when he chose the Path he abandoned all his wealth, unlike the monks in Thailand, who not only keep it, but increase it many fold like some hedge fund managers.

problem with that is that there are rules and regulations concerning monks belongings!

Don't feel bad. You wore the same shoes as Jesus when He cleaned His Father's house.

What you and your fellow junta lovers often forget is that the reds are no longer in power. If/when they get back in power I will criticize them as they're sure to eff things up. In the mean time I will concentrate on the unelected bunch of #*@! currently in power.

Crazy, right?
