Woman's Day Ruined When Husband's Pre-Paid Mobile Had No Credits

JABALPUR: -- Vodafone India, the second largest cell phone provider in the nation, is unhappy with the company’s recent bout of media attention.

In particular, the activities of one couple in the city of Jabalpur, located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, has drawn a pall over the telecom’s advertising campaign as it attempts to gain ground on India’s leading mobile phone provider, Airtel. The media accounts detail a dispute between a husband and wife over the simple matter of the lack of pre-paid credits on his cell phone and how this resulted in a death.

Om Devi had been married to her husband, Gram Badkhera, for a little over eighteen months. According to their neighbors and her relatives, the relationship between the two had been rocky from the beginning. These individuals explained that Badkhera felt his wife should be more responsive to his needs and recognize that her loyalties were to him, not her parents and siblings.

While the two could be heard yelling about these issues frequently during the first year of their marriage, the neighbors living above them noted that such arguments had subsided in recent weeks.

Seem to have heard some of this before - well aware of a Thai husband and wife, where the wife's mother, brothers and sisters of the Thai lady insist that she must always pay more attention / allegiance to them rather than her Thai husband.

Came to a head mid last year when the wife had a baby. Her sister was at the hospital by coincidence when she was taken to the delivery room. Husband works about 20 kilometers away and waiting to come instantly when his wife taken to the delivery room.

Wife's sister quickly informed her mother sisters and brothers who all came to the hospital quickly but deliberately did not inform the husband.

Husband came to visit early evening after work not knowing that the baby was already born. He also discovered that some birth documents had already been partly completed by his wife's mother and stating the mothers maiden name as the baby family name. Part of a long running argument trying to insist the wife change her family name back to her maiden name rather than husbands family name as recorded officially at marriage and husbands family name taken by the bride as per her own wishes.

After all went home the wives family intervened further to the point where the husband / new baby's father banned them from coming to the house.

Who needs phone credits to call their family these days?

If a poor family, they maybe had the old style village phone at or near the local shop, where somebody runs and calls them to a phone. Maybe, her family, had an old style house phone or their neighbours did. The husband may have some cash, but in India the man seldom shares it with the "wife's family! " Unlikely with the animosity they had regards his views of her neglecting him in favour of them.

I don't think the family had a smartphone / Wi Fi connection or this problem would not have arisen, would it?

Bearing in mind vast swathes of the the country don't even have a house toilet and still use the fields.
