Thai Airways to delay taking delivery of 14 planes to cut costs

Use the little used A340 600 as fuel prices are at an all time low, on miles totaled they are new----stood doing what------at high fuel prices they are gas guzzlers but are affordable now to use------lovely fast comfortable aircraft--customer friendly.

I remember a Saudi Prince wanted to buy one but Thai wanted the earth for the plane--are these aircraft still stood ??

I remember a couple years ago Thai was trying to flog off a couple of their late-model excess planes and some Saudi prince or sheik made an offer for one and the Thais complained the price was too low. I don't know what eventually resulted but I'd bet they take half that offer now.

And what is Thai doing ordering both the 787 and the A350, they're basically the same plane from different manufacturers. This complicates and increases the cost of maintenence, parts stocking, and pilot training!

Playing one manufacturer off against another increases the potential for "sweeteners", and means of course more rather enjoyable overseas trips and meetings. It also means that you can employ more (well connected people) in your procurement offices, together with the right sort of chaps to manage the maintenance, parts stocking and training programmes.

I'm sure you will see that it makes sense.

Postpone safe new airplanes when the old planes safety ratings are failing.

Rather spend billions by investing and stepping backward with a Single Gateway Internet.

Of course, what was I thinking...that the goal is to run an efficient profitable airline...silly me ?

Perhaps it will be more clear if I add that the "right sort of chaps" are retired senior Air Force officers .

They are uniquely qualified and experienced, plus they already have a blue uniform...

Their children are just the people to take on junior roles in their department, even if those roles have to be created for them.

...but be sure they will siphon and squander all they can with annual bonuses...up to a few years' salary.......regardless of performance...

Why would Thai airways have an office in Mae Hong Son in the first place .They do not even fly there.

Same with Madrid.

That´s closed since September last year, to the public anyway

What is your point, I did not see Thai Airways flights listed there?

Thai was our first choice for sometime but no more. A muffin for breakfasr after an all night flight finished us with Qantas. An absolute disrespect for economy passengers. Emirates now top our list but cracks are emerging as they seem to be allowing Qantas example to drag Emirates service down to "muffin level".
