Fig trees

Featured Replies

For exotic tree collectors:

Just off the 1317 (18.712899, 99.136639) is a fig tree plantation, in greenhouses. Trees are for sale and the fresh figs also.

Don't have prices of the trees since the owner was not there but fruits cost THB 100 for 4 pieces. Cheaper if large qties. Quite expensive but I hope to buy some trees in the future and grow them myself. Most of their trees, even smaller ones where producing fruits already. Nice to see that some people are doing something completely different.

Cheers

Hello Tommy,

This is grown at same elevation as CM itself. In April/May + 40C. Winter night temperature here can be 10C.

If your climate is same same then I do not see a problem. They are grown in concrete rings with a lot of organic matter and drip irrigation.

Cheers

Growing a couple in Buriram, taken from end cuttings. I wouldn't bother with seeds, almost certain to be disappointing.

I ve trees in europ (mainly grey of caromb, and red of bordeaux) and have gently made shipment to krungtep already. my cuts have grown, are trees now

I bought some at a farmers market in Saraphi, most probably from the same source, and so far they are doing very well.

By the way, if anyone want trees from south europ, i can organise it

many people have trees with tasty fruits here

Named varieties need a cross pollinator. This means that they also need the specialised wasp that gets inside the as yet unpollinated 'fruit' - actually the male and female flowers are on the inside. I guess that this is why someone is cultivating figs in a protected environment, to keep the wasps where needed. The more common fig is self fertilising, doesn't need the wasp. I am assuming and hoping that the two bushes that I haveare of the latter type. They grew slowly at first, one fruit never ripened and fell off. Since the rains started they have really sprung into growth so not likely to make fruit for some time.

Hello Mike,

Can you name the European fruits trees you can get to Thailand? I would love to have olive trees. I travel a lot in SE Asia and have trees from all over but Europe I seldom go.

Thanks
