I guess it's because they all discovered Indo-mee which tastes much better...it's always sold out in Tops last weeks.

Hahaha... I am truly surprised when I saw this as the first comment!!! It was precisely my thoughts. Indomie does actually taste better and have better texture too. But that's subjective. However, Indomie is much, much more expensive than Mama so if people find it difficult to afford Mama, then Indomie is going to be a hard sell.

Maybe that's upcountry, in BKK they don't care for 10 baht more or less when it comes to dinner.

They are serious sold out most of the time lately in Topsy so now we also buy 10-15 packs if we see them. We don't visit Tops often so it's always good to have some stock at home.

I guess the other TV-members haven't tried Indomee yet, in Europe we can buy it in 10 different flavours but in Thailand only 2. Also there's a helal version and a normal one but the normal is sure always sold out in BKK.

Headline is suspect, but TIT

"He attributed main reason for the steep fall to the shrinking purchasing power of its core customers, the grass root people, falling farm prices which forced them to turn to other cheaper food instead, such as white rice in smaller packs."

So white rice in smaller packs is sold cheaper than 6 baht? i think not.....

"He said Mama is no longer an economic indicator as some said when the country was hit by bad economy during the past two years, sales of Mama also was bad though it was sold at only 6 baht per pack. "

that is BS as they will always be the mama index.... since "its core customers, the grass root people, "

It does not matter how many superstars they get to promote it, mama will never be Hi-So.... gigglem.gif

Sales have dropped because "its core customers, the grass root people, " have discovered that mama have been doing same as all others keeping price but cutting volume.

Before they could eat one pack of mama and be full now not so much.....

so "its core customers, the grass root people, " find other products to eat..

This is one place I will not try to save money.. good quality healthy food. Every now and then I like to hit the garbage dump, but generally I'll pay up for quality food.

There are lots of various noodle products in the higher end stores. It might involve rinsing and cooking, but much much better tasting... add a little salt/pepper, spice of your flavor and throw in some veggie or protein. Aroi mak mak

When I lived in Naklua (north Pattaya) I was close to a couple of hotels that had many S Korean & Chinese package tours staying there. It was noticeable that about 30 minutes after a tour bus returned in the evening the local 7/11 would be overwhelmed by the number of these tourists buying pot-noodles. Maybe the TAT figures for these tourists don't 'stack-up', as I can't imagine them changing their 'cheap' eating habits.

As it looks like only a few people in this thread understood the actual OP, let me just change the headline...

MAMA INSTANT NOODLE SALE HIGHEST EVER RECORDED!

but growth this year less than expected.

But they are terribly bad for your health and only eaten by the lower classes, not high end Farang who prefer indomee or some other brand only 3 million out of 60 odd million can afford to buy.

You smoke too much stoney. If you can afford a big truck which drives 1:10 or less economic you can also buy better food then mama noodles. Do you also smoke black cat tobacco or buy it plain from the farmer?

Nothing wrong with mama noodles of course. It's not about being cheap, it's about being convenient for a quick snack.

Most of the upper scale noodles are not as good IMHO. Certainly not those innovative ones that do health nonsense, whatever that is supposed to mean..

Indo-mie Mi goreng satay flavor. It's my new go-to instant noodle. I did not like the chicken curry flavor, too plain.

Noodles? seriously?

All i know is,i like em,my dog likes em and my 2 cats like em.My wife likes em,even my 77 year old mother in law likes em

I dont care who makes them, they make a great snack when watching the telly, and go down nicely with a beer.

I have no interest in their market stats or their cost on the shelves. All i know is that they taste goooood.

And that should be that.

Noodles! seriously???

Mama is a brand that has rejected innovation and improvement at every turn. When the trend is toward healthier, Mama has done NOTHING. Their noodles are still fried, and loaded up with too much salt, and tons of MSG. Moroheiya, and some of the other brands are far, far superior products. Mama continues to embrace mediocrity, as if it was their mantra, with zero regard to health, or healthy alternatives. They deserve to lose market share. They are about as innovative as Thai Air and Prayuth.

Yep, when people realize they have healthier choices, they're not gonna waste their health on some cheap instant noodles.

Did you buy the satay flavour in Thailand, if so then where? I only know that from in Europe.

We think the same about chicken curry flavour but i brought that from Malaysia. Never seen it here.

I don't see how cooking your own noodles is a convenient way to get a snack when they're available ready-cooked for next to nothing on every corner.

Because you don't have to venture out to the dodgy world of Thais, Soi dogs, etc from the comforts of your fortified dwelling.

Goodness me a specialist on instant noodles and there calorific and health benefits,Thai visa members know no bounds.

Instant noodles are simply mediocre per se regardless of brand.

OUCH!

The doner kebabs all young British people used to eat after the pub shuts could be called mediocre but that didn't mean they weren't essential to the good life and helped avoid hangovers. Swings and roundabouts.

Spider mike could u research the salt content etc of these Indo-Mee they sound interesting may feed dependents with them.

Ps: be aware they shove sugar in Pad Thai just say man said nam than I personally also say man said kai and may say tohu but make the gai piset to keep the protein up

Cheeryble.

Japanese noodles appearing on the shelves are far superior.

I don't buy mama and the other Thai brand anymore. I like to break the noodles into small chunks before i cook them so they fit onto the spoon. But the Thai brands just turn to dust the moment you try to break a piece off. So foreign brands only for me.

The other place that sells it is Villa Market. I think Tesco carries it too, if I'm not mistaken.

I recall early 2015 Management at Mama showed concern about falling sales and announced a price increase, presumably to sustain profits? After all this is the normal approach to falling commercial incomes in Thailand.

Looking through our cupboards I notice no Mama products but an abundance of noodles made by "Thai Preserved Food Factory Co Ltd" All the labeling is in Thai script but I think the Company brand is "Wai"

Tops Market has about the best selection of healthy alternatives, in the instant noodle category, that I have seen in Thailand. Villa Market has a few. Perhaps Siam Market at Siam Paragon or Em Quartier?

Usually when I say man sai pan chulott, and mai sai nam tang, I get it without added sugar or MSG. I can barely taste the difference, but it allows one to eat out without ingesting alot of unnecessary crap into ones body.
