Big BIB presence in Asok tonight

Featured Replies

A friend who was in Asok earlier, about 5-6ish,, messaged me that there were many, MANY cops, many on, as he described, "big" motorcycles, as opposed to the normal 2 to a scooter,, All located, (from what he could tell) in the area mainly between say, Soi's 13-21ish, He also mentioned he noticed them having what he called, "some sort of meeting/gathering", in the Robinsons/Terminal 21 front area. I stayed in tonight, so am only going on what he told me. Was anyone else there that can confirm, knows what was going on?

The police were out and about checking traffic all along Sukhumvit for the last couple of days now.

It's quite possible that they were meeting up prior to conducting some kind of raid.

I've seen something similar in the UK a few times before (they used a car park nearby) - you would see many police vehicles gathered in some place - at this stage none of the officers know what they're doing / where they're going.

Then they get their orders and move in for the kill.

Realized the stupidity right after I hit the button. My bad.

Usually when you see the cops on "big bikes" near a shopping mall it means one of the royals is going shopping.

It's about 2 month that many police patrols at this area.

If you are not a criminal you have to be happy for that.

It is traffic surveillance to ensure nobody makes illegal U-turns on Asoke. The new, and stricter, rule has been advertised.

For some police that's a permanent condition.

Saw about 4 or 5 big bikes and about 6 cops all parked in front of Chuvit Park near Soi 10 about 9:30 last night. No u-turn possibilty there.

Couldn't figure out what they were doing.

Good on ya.

So unfortunate that all of the other posters who talk smack do not do the same.

The police are all over the place between Soi 3 and Soi 19 right now.

As "cgphuket" observed; this usually happens when a member of the Royal Family is either shopping or attending an event in the area. All cross streets and overhead walkways are usually closed and traffic halted 10 minutes before the luminaries pass thru. Police are usually stationed every 50 meters and Motorcycle escorts do advance patrol. Always a motorcade of at least 5 cars.

As a couple of others have stated I have walked along Sukhumvit before now and seen many cops on bikes doing nothing. They then get their orders and before you know it all cross streets are blocked and all traffic is cleared. Either for a member of the royal family or someone has seen the look on the P.M's face and thinks he is in need of a shit.

Stoopid, yes, but no smack. I've lived and worked in the area for about 5 years and never been mugged, accosted, burglarized or even threatened. I credit that at least in part to the BIB who seem to get no respect. Of course there are notable exceptions, but given the disparity in economic levels living packed elbow to elbow in relative safety, some of them are obviously doing something right.

My post was about an upcoming event that may warrant advance security, but I realized the stupidity of publicizing it- right after I hit the button.
