PHUKET: -- A newly revived ‘Phuket Brand’ logo can now be used by businesses to boost consumer confidence, the Phuket Office of Commercial Affairs announced yesterday.

“The logo has been designed and approved since 2009 in order to promote the island’s goods and services,” said Decha Phetwong, chief of Phuket’s Office of Commercial Affairs. “But for some reason, it has not really been used until Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada revived it last month.”

At this stage, the plan is to divide businesses into five categories; spas, restaurants, public transportation, local products by One Tambon One Product (OTOP) and agricultural products, Mr Decha explained.

Mr Decha announced that each category will be handled by relevant officials that have authority in their related fields.

Yes, that is what happens with stupid ideas, they don't get used. Sometimes even in Thailand.

Question: How much was/ is the budget for this waste of time, and - like all public purse budgets in Thailand - is it available for the tax payer to scrutinize?

Answer: We will never know, and no.

Good to see they didn't include the speedboats, jet skis or tuk tuks in the categories.

That would be tough to pull off.

but they did; speedboats, jet ski's and Tuk Tuks are, basically the only public transportation... wai2.gif
