Songkhla puts up red flags to warn against swimming

SONGKHLA, 8 February 2016 (NNT) – Authorities have placed red flag warnings at beaches in Songkhla, banning swimming activities due to strong waves expected at 2-4 meters high in the Gulf of Thailand.

Songkhla City Municipality has placed red flags to ban swimming in the sea along the Samila and Chalathat Beaches for along a distance of six kilometers. The province is under an influence of weather change, with high waves and a strong wind surge putting buildings and pine trees along the beach at risk.

Provincial authorities have also announced an advisory to the general public to beware of harsh weather conditions and to take care of their health, while additional officers have been deployed at Samila and Chalathat Beach to take care of tourists.

Visitors traveling to the beach are also advised to be mindful of collapsing pines due to strong winds. Reports or requests for assistance can be made to lifeguards along Chalathat Beach, by calling 0-7431-4245, or by calling the 1132 municipality call center.

Red flags now might confuse Chinese tourists.

The color Red corresponds to the Chinese New Years. wai2.gif
