PHUKET: -- Two major flyover construction projects that were grounded by public opinion last year are clear for takeoff.

Out of the 339 voting participants at the public meeting Thursday morning, 259 approved the project, a dramatic contrast to the 65% of 95 voters who shot down the plan on August 10 last year (story here).

The flyovers are planned for the u-turn at the first set of traffic lights just north of Thalang Town and the Baan Koh Kaew Tha Ruea u-turn in front of Baan Jee Teng, each having a 100 million baht budget.

They have to expropriate 10m of land on each side of the road. I wonder how long that will take? Some examples which took years rather than months are the widening of the road through Thalang, the water tank saga on the way from Chalong Circle to Rawai, the corner at the T junction just south of Promphan on Chao Fa West & I wonder how they are going with the promise to widen this section of road coming from the underpass at Central as there are a lot of properties to be expropriated although it is quite possible they have encroached on public land.
