Portugal overturns presidential veto on gay adoption

LISBON: -- Portugal’s parliament has overturned a presidential veto on a bill legalising adoption by same-sex couples. The motion was supported by the ruling Socialists and their far-Left allies. Conservative President Anibal Cavaco Silva will have to sign the bill allowing same sex adoption into law before his term ends in March.

The president last month vetoed the gay adoption bill on the grounds that parliament passed it in November without having promoted a wide-enough national debate and citing doubts that it would promote the wellbeing of children.

His refusal provoked sharp criticism from human rights groups and politicians alike.

Under the constitution he now has eight days to sing the bill into law.

and soon we will be made to want to condemn marriage between a man ad a woman. I'm happy to be getting old fast, I won't have to see all that s..t

Don't be ridiculous

Not ridiculous. I'd be willing to put money on his prediction.

Someone predicting gay marriage and adoption not so many years back would have been ridiculed.

That's how lefties get their way, they make people with sense feel guilty using PC as a weapon.

No I'm not homophobic, I just dislike it when folk try to make me feel out of step. Nearly said abnormal. Heaven forbid!

I am trying to imagine myself as a child being brought up by a gay couple and ending up normal. Difficult, to say the least.

It's more common than you think. Especially with lesbian mothers. The issues are often related to the hateful bigotry of homophobes in society. Probably worse for the boys ... yes, kids are often cruel about anything different, and bullies. Obviously it's better in some places than others.

This article suggest that your fears are wholly unjustified.

"In 2010, American researchers published results from a meta-analysis of 33 studies comparing the well-being of children raised by opposite-sex couples with children raised by same-sex couples. This study found no evidence that children raised by same-sex parents fared any worse than other children on a range of behavioural, educational, emotional or social outcomes."
