Pattaya Traffic Woes - Holiday Weekend

It's a long weekend here in Thailand... King Rama 5's Memorial Day tomorrow... and 8 out of 10 cars you see on the road have Bangkok registrations.

It's as if half of Bangkok has descended on Pattaya for the weekend.

A mate just called me... it's taken him 45 minutes to get from Pattaya Klang to Pattaya Tai down Sukhumvit Road.

:D

I have to get from Nakhlua to NaJomtien shortly... anyone know any decent shortcuts around the bedlam?

:o

What about making your way onto 3rd road at the north road entrance and travelling down the full length over the lights at south road and make your way down to the Jomtien turn off at Buddah hill................i/d avoid Sukhumvit ,i went down from middle road to south road on the bike and that was bad enough.

-Turn rt onto North and left onto 3rd.

-After Klang, turn left on any of the smaller sois like 10, 12, 14, etc. onto Arunotai.

-After Shagwell, turn right onto shortcut past Love Inn short time Motel. (290bt for 3 hours). :D

-Turn left onto Bonkoch which becomes Kopai which turns into Tepprasit.

-From Tepprasit, you can avoid Jomtien beach road by going along that long curvy soi which comes out to soi 9 Jomtien. :D

This may seem lengthy but these (narrow extremely dangerous suicidal) sois won't be very busy almost all the time.

Make sure you renew your life insurance, advise your next of kin, learn basic Thai to communicate with Sawang Boriboon ambulance, keep a copy of your Thai will, and wear a GPS on your ankle. You'll be fine. :D

sorry I got distracted and left out a vital piece of information! duh.

when proceding down third road after the Pattaya Tai junction take a left at the next lights, this brings you up to Theraspit Road where you turn right and go down to the next junction and turn left. Alternatively after Pattaya Tai just carry straight on until you reach the flyover where you bear left and at the roundabout turn left and you are on the jomtien road.

T'was really really busy along Jomtien beach today..I've not seen it that busy since Songkran,in fact it may have been even more busy than last Songkran :o

Does anyone know where the 2 day motocross event is taking place ? I thought it was at the off road track at Jomtien ( hence the trip there today ) but no sign of it :D

Thanks for all the replies on this thread.

I ended up going down highway 36 towards Rayong, turning off on 331 towards Sattahip, then cutting back over to Sukhumvit at one of the sealed roads before you get to the Asian University.

Total trip time: 25 minutes.

That's what I would have done. driving along Jomtien would have been worse than sukhumvit.

I stayed home.

Might also be an idea to rent a motorbike over holiday weekends. 100 baht a day.

I have a girl brings a motorbike out and collects it [no extra charge].if I need one.
