BANGKOK, 17 February 2016, (NNT) - The Department of International Trade Promotion, along with the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association and the Gems, Jewelry & Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand, has recently held a press conference announcing the 57th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, which will be held at Impact Muang Thong Thani from February 24 - 28.

The fair's theme this year is "Thailand: World's Ruby Capital," highlighting the quality of Thai rubies and the Kingdom's readiness to become a key global supplier of the gem.

Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat hoped that the fair would become a vital market for gems and jewelry. She talked about the government's assistance measures, especially Value-Added Tax (VAT) exemptions for various types of imported precious stones, as well as other incentives.

President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association Suttipong Damrongsakul said event-goers can purchase duty-free precious stones with a 20% tax exemption, visit the "Design Pavilion" exhibition, and attend the "Ruby Symposium", a conference to discuss Thailand as a trade hub for rubies.

President of the Gems, Jewelry & Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand Somchai Phornchindarak praised the government's past, present and future contributions to the development of the gems & jewelry industry.

The Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair is organized twice annually with the goal of increasing the export value of gems and jewelry. Organizers also seek to promote the event to become one of the world's top five trade fairs. This year marks an important step for Thailand, as this will be the first major fair after the establishment of ASEAN Community.
