Thaksin Warns: Thailand's Economic Woes Worse Than 1997 Crisis
Though I do expect the baht to dip, trade tensions are just a small part of the equation. The economy here is in tatters, and it is still suffering from 10 years of the Prayuth Decimation. The debt is higher than it's ever been, the banks are being very stingy with loans at this point because the default rates are so high, the new car market has stalled, property sales are very slow, and exports are dropping, so the problems are numerous. As if those problems weren't enough, though the tourist arrival numbers are high, the quality of tourists continues to drop, and the amount that the average tourist is spending continues to drop, so the total revenue being brought in from tourism is significantly less than it was pre-covid. I could go on. A message to the young PM. You might as well stop with the lies because nobody believes you anymore. -

Poll -- Who will cave first in the momentous China-USA trade war?
China has learned its lessons from Trump's first presidency. The Chinese have gradually weaned themselves off of US imports, and found alternative suppliers. They have built their own semi conductor industry, automated many factories to lower costs, and massively increased their gold holdings. No one know how much they hold officially, but they are one of the largest gold producers in the world, and they don't export it. They have even created their own BRICS payment system due to the US weaponisation of the Dollar. IMHO they are more immune to US actions than vice-versa. -

How come they don't understand that week-long water throwing is actually bad for business?
Keeps the complainers inside. Scared of getting wet. while the rest of the country has a big party. Loud music too, also upsets the complainers. -

and for employed Thai's who only entitled to 6 annual leave days per year... the 5 day weekend is great for them to get back up country and spend the time with family. -

Terrible for the environment too, and water supplies etc, especially during hot season when many places face severe droughts... Water throwing during Songkran should be banned, imo. Kobe Don.
