Haze on Doi Inthanon?>

Featured Replies

Wife and I are thinking about a short trip to Doi Inthanon and Chiang Mai city next week or early March. Been reading about all the "haze" up north but how abut Doi Inthanon and CM city? Or a bit farther north say around Chang Dao?

Smog should be in full swing early March.

I went camping on Doi Inthanon in February a few years ago. It is too crowded in December.

On the way down, I rode past kilometre after kilometre of mountainside ablaze.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Mountain in CM no longer visible.

Can't see much from the top of Doi Pui/Doi Suthep.

Doi Inthanon won't be any better.

Who needs mountains anyway, just big tourist traps. Hide the mountains, maybe the Chinese stay home :)

Its always worse in the morning and gradually improves as the day goes on.

It doesn't matter where u go 200 km north of Bangkok it's starts to get nasty and damn unhealthy.

I remember wasting a day at Doi Inthanon once. Never again.

I'm curious how you wasted a day at Doi Inthanon. My wife and I visit there every year and spend several days. We rent one of the cabins, enjoy eating at the restaurant located in the King's Project and visiting the gardens and coffee shop. Kind of laid back and relaxing and probably not every ones idea of a good time. As with all national parks always avoid visiting over the weekends.

That's because all the smog was only on a day pass from Burma cheesy.gif

You need to give it another try. Avoid the beaten path. Avoid weekends or holidays. Avoid the tourist traps. Smell the flowers. Listen to the birds. Enjoy the early morning coolness.

"Haze" - actually thick smoke obscuring the whole range. As I drove into Chom Thong from Chiang Mai yesterday afternoon the plumes of smoke from the moutainside fires was just amazing.

Oh yes, starting from 16 February no burning is allowed right?

Can you list a few other places in Thailand that you avoid? Might give me some ideas of where to go.

The Haze is very bad today. But not as bad as yesterday. Better to wait a few more weeks. Better for your health. thanks.

Any idea if you can take pets? Smallish doggies.

I doubt if you can take a dog as dogs/pets are not allowed in national parks although I have seen people with small dogs that had obviously smuggled them in.

It doesn't really look that bad. Do you have a picture from the same angle on a clear day?

For siamjourney: On the attached pics there are phone numbers that you can call and they can give you exact directions to their cabins. The Angka Forest View, 087 1126216 and 098 7590935, looked nice and they are located on Rt 1009 in the same area.

Thanks, that narrows it down a bit.
