Samuis garbage disposal crisis continues

KOH SAMUI: -- For several years now Samui’s garbage disposal problem has been escalating out of control. With an incinerator that has been out of action for years piles of toxic, rotting garbage continue to pile up at the disposal plant at Huathanon.

Rivers and ponds in the area are polluted, toxic and contaminated, the garbage plant itself has bene left abandoned, the windows are smashed and the staff are long gone.

Since our report in April last year nothing has changed, only the amount of rubbish has increased along with the smell and the risk of disease.

In 2008 an ultimatum was issued from the Governor of Surat Thani to bring in contractors to deal with the problem, sadly it appears to have fallen on deaf ears.

A Samui Times reader has sent us the latest photograph of the not so pretty side of paradise.

This is the big problem for Samui , Thais seem only able to take and fail to understand you must put something in to maintain a balance to the Island , they will soon learn.

I always thought that Samui was a pile of toxic, rotting garbage and now its been confirmedfacepalm.gif

Those in charge wont/never listen...never do....no money in for them...as for the garbage let it mount up..with them on top.

Thai logic..it will go away...eventually cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Yes, how many years can a "TRASH HEAP" exist
Before it's washed to the sea ?
Yes, how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn't see ?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Samui does not have this problem cornered. Its country wide. Money must be spent on solving problems. Serious jail time will soon solve this.

When I was there 25 years ago the eateries were burying refuse under the beach in deep pits so wherever you sit on a beach your on top of a refuse heap!it got so bad there was nowhere left to dig a hole as all had been exploited!!

This problem is out of control to the it is a serious health hazard.

With no money to be made, the problem will never be addressed.

Living in the third world, sooner or later you realized life is not all peaches and cream.

The toxins blowing all directions, what a health hazard.

No thanks to that however Thai's dump trash where ever they see fit which is everywhere.

What a national embarrassment.
