i congratulate Swiss people.

and not so wise comments here.

so, lets say if Thai authorities announce such law, what do you feel as a foreigner when there is 'Sword of Damocles' swinging on your head at all times?

bc such law give authorities a way to deport whoever and whenever they want! Russia uses the same system and i heard foreigners and long time expats deported for wayfaring at a wrong road!

do you like if authorities use such power against you as expats and foreigners living in Thailand?

basically you say; 'if it not happening to me, it is not my problem.'

Did you read the reference to serious crimes? You think Thailand should not deport foreigners for such crimes as murder? The U.K., not so long go, managed to 'lose' numerous foreigners, guilty of serious crimes to the outside world; though unfortunately, still in Britain.

To be honest if the wording had been better and I had been home I would have voted yes,

Every country has the right to deport foreign criminals. Obviously sometimes repatriation is not possible to some countries where the criminal is truly endangered.

Only last week the British home secretary announced that she will strip the Pakistanis found guilty of child abuse in Rotherham of the citizenship and deport them at the end of their sentences.

"If the wording had been better"? Please read #7 and #20 again. Besides, I'm living here but do vote in my country of origin, though not home anymorerolleyes.gif .

Good for you. Not all of us have that opportunity after a certain period of time overseas.

In theory, automatic deportation of foreign criminals sounds good, but in practice, was this measure adopted, it would have led to injustice in many situations.

Making something "automatic" is rarely good, especially in judicial process.

I guess the advertising by the Swiss socialists demonstrating the many situations where such deportation would be aberrant have had their effect.

The SVP's proposal was half-baked, not thought through. The SVP should rethink their proposal, making deportation an option when foreigners are convicted, taking into account their level of integration into Swiss society.

Obviously, a foreigner who is a petty criminal, little or no family in Switzerland, not integrated into Swiss society, living from welfare, should be deported.

Did you read the thread? Convicted criminals of serious crimes will be deported.
