Places to exercise on visit to Sathorn

We're spending a couple of days in BKK, and would like to stay with a friend's daughter in Sathorn.

I suffer from agoraphobia and the reason for the trip is to try to get over this and start to get around Bangkok.

It really helps if I can get some heavy exercise which I do every day in CM.......calms my mind a lot.

So the question is can we stay with the friend and I visit a gym/pool/yoga studio (i.e. what's there?).....or do we need a hotel which may have the first two of these?

Thanks v much

You might want to stay in a hotel with a pool and a gym for ease of use- or there's the big fitness first at Chong Nonsi (where the BTS station at Sathorn is)- you can sign up for a free trial there-

Alternatively you can use the gyms in the park, outdoors- there's one at Lumpini park and probably closer there's one at Teo Chew cemetery (which is actually a big park... with a cemetery in it.) It also goes by a bunch of different names.

And there's quite a few yoga studios on the area like- Yoga Sutra.

Thanks Rumblecat

wow 500 baht for yoga welcome to Bangkok I guess.

We've actually booked to stay with the friend daughter now (it's Airbnb) that'll be nice as she lives there

Anyone know a swimming pool I could pay to use in that vicinity (it's actually Suanplu soi1)

Next is it worth us hiring a friend husband taxi for a whole day or is the traffic just too much to make it worthwhile.

The whole idea is for me to try to get comfortable being outside in BKK and on the Skytrain but may be worth having a car then I can make "sorties" pushing my comfort level but having an escape shell as it were. One good reason for a car is want to try going to Suvarnabhumi where several years ago I had a major panic attack approaching ......but that's where I'm determined to fly from in future.

I'd personally try to avoid traffic most of the time (although it's not so bad in the middle of the day- you definitely want to avoid morning rush hour and then probably the period from 4pm to 8pm I guess) but it depends on how comfortable you are with the sky train. Or how much the taxi wants- it might be good to have a car on stand-by anyway.

Swimming pools are a little tougher, sadly most hotels in the area don't seem to allow non-guests to visit- the Sofitel So near Lumpini Park does but it's quite pricey.

There's two topics here on hotels / sports club that allow non-members to use pools which might be of help-

Is Suan Lumphini not an option? It would be less than 1km walk to it and a nice place to work out at late afternoons or early am.

It is an option Noodle

......trouble is agoraphobia makes it difficult to just walk outside and be in open spaces .....for me OK in CM in the countryside but horrible surrounded by big traffic and big buildings.

Nutty .....well kinda yes.

My whole reason for this trip is to get used to BKK a bit more and take plane flight back.

I have flown planes myself but right now have a fear of just going on one and a fear of even travelling to Suvarnabhumi where I had a big panic attack some years ago.

Been locked into Thailand for 12 years now and determined to do something about it.
