Hmm, some what surprised Air Asia didnt charge a 7% Return of monies or Customer Protection surcharge on the 60K...

Why the bashing?

The girl who saw the theft acted very professionally.

I think the poster is on about Air Asia, not the stewardess, due to their charging for every thing!

They must have left out some information on this story, it's not so simple to follow someone onto a plane if you don't have a ticket for the same flight. .

Maybe you can do it on a class airline like Air Asia....

Would have been nice if they could have squeezed the entire Don Meuang Airport tourist police and immigration officer division into the photo with the robber. I expect such a photo was requested but the photographer probably didn't have a wide-angle lens.

THERE'S ANOTHER ITEM HERE JUST TODAY WHERE AN ACCIDENT VICTIM PRAISES THE POLICE....AND TO MAKE MATTERES WORSE, A WHOLE STRING A PAGE LONG OF PEOPLE AGREEING, HAVING THEMSELVES NEVER HAD BAD EXPERIENCES WITH THAI POLICE DESPITE MULTIPLE CONTACTS!!!!!!!

Just informing you that you are needed elsewhere. Can't have this kind of stuff go unchallenged(or imaginatively reinterpreted) on these strings, can we?

Police said that they are seeing increasing reports of thefts of this nature.

If it wasn't for the fact this crime is increasing with the Chinese the main

culprits, i padlock all my bags and keep it under the seat in front of me.

Gambling winnings: Easy come, easy go!

does not look as a good investment of the thief!! 60.000 baht is aproximately $ 1500. After the expenses for a returnticket Macao bangkok there does not seem a good return on investment !!

It is really difficult to secure your personal stuff in the confines of an aircraft, you may have a phone a tablet or perhaps also a laptop then you go for a nap and you have no control.

Carrying cash in hand luggage stored in an overhead Locker is too stupid to contemplate, this guy was lucky that they were more alert than he was

How come in nearly every arrest in Thailand the perp always confesses?

Despite overwhelming evidence, in the stupid soft west they plead innocence right up to conviction and waste everyone's time.

The punishment in Thailand is usually cut in half for a guilty plea.... So most likely anyone who knows he's caught red handed will rather serve 5 years than 10 etc.... And his lawyer probably suggest he do that...

Them again, there's always the rumoured Thai torture.... Whether it's true or not I guess we'll never know because of the lack of due process and civil rights....

Sure it's easy. The Bangkok-Macao flights are rarely full so easy to buy a ticket as a walk-up, then easy to catch up to the quarry at departure gate.

Passengers frequently get up and get stuff out of their bags in the bins; nobody really pays attention.

You see an Asian guy in a macao casino win a pile of money, you don't even know he's going to the airport next never mind which flight he's taking and you have to make sure where the money is while buying a ticket and then catching up to him at the departure lounge sounds a bit too much like a James bond mission imo...

If they are unsuccessful getting any cash they have a lot of expenses to cover too...

Also 59k is pittance for the costs and logistics involved in a robbery on a plane

It is.

I dont believe this story for one minute .

Darn !!! What poor timing. Just when Thai authorities are trying

to soothe the general population that inside the Chinese really

are good people, and their tourism dollars are needed,

along comes a story like this one to ruin everything........ The

news story is not stating who the victim is, I suspect that this

is a Chinese on Chinese crime..

Actually, Thailand is waking up to the Chinese and the majority of Thais I know don't have a good opinion of Chinese tourists.

Regulating the entry of their vehicles, stopping Chinese tour guides and wedding photographers working illegally and stealing work from Thais are just the beginning.

Chinese campervans driving into Thailand and not spending a Baht here, parking for free at Wats, petrol stations (which begs the question, how do they shower? Or do they do the same thing as back home when there's no hot water for a week and not have a shower at all?) and boiling their own noodles instead of buying something at the local store. That is now being clamped down upon.

I read a blog comment on a Facebook post of a Thai social media user who commented on a picture of a Chinese campervan driving inside Thailand near Phitsanulok. The caption read in Thai and I quote: "new way to run drugs around the country. Chinese tourist vehicles."

Anyway, Chinese on Chinese crime doesn't make it any less serious. Especially considering the international element of it here you have someone stealing money on a flight to a foreign country [Thailand].

Actually, Thailand is waking up to the Chinese and the majority of Thais I know don't have a good opinion of Chinese tourists.

As you know many Thai are of Chinese blood, definitely the merchant class. Apparently they simply cannot tolerate each other. As for the drug running tour busses...good observation. I understand that scenario to be quite accurate.

there was a similar case last week,...or maybe it's the same one ? in that case it's old news.....!!

"Police said that they are seeing increasing reports of thefts of this nature."

I have seen 3 reports, all different flights, all Chinese men, all overhead lockers.

It is becoming a trend.

tip of the day

always place your bags in the overhead compartment opposite you, not above you. that way you can see if someones rummaging.

and do not sleep????

no, you dont sleep. anyone in the isle near you you watch, especially if you have cash which is not on your person.

understand now?

A lot of comments about the ' financial risk' factor the thief took, mostly from people who see him as an individual.

These people work in highly organized gangs. it will be the gangs themselves that will foot the costs. The individual just takes the risk of getting caught, which doesn't happen too often as they are usually good at what they do. Hats off to the vigilant crew in this case.

Multiply this one crime by ten-fold a week and it becomes profitable for them.

The story is a good heads-up for passengers to be aware of what can happen, and to take their personal security up a level when leaving valuables in an uncontrolled environment can be prevented.

Don't make it easy for these scum............................ wink.png

What is the real moral to this story? If you are carrying cash, always leave it locked up, on a flight, or in a hotel room. Just a small 200 baht luggage lock would have saved this guy from getting robbed. Would I carry 60,000 baht in my carry on, without it being locked up during flight? Absolutely not. I use a luggage lock on a suitcase, whenever I am in a hotel room too. I hear all kinds of stories about hotel safes being "broken" into. I have never had my luggage broken into, while holding my passport, laptop, cash, credit cards, etc. I always keep it locked up, while out of the room. The same rule applies for a guy who takes a stranger back to his room. Lock everything in the suitcase or the safe, prior to getting busy. Why take a chance?
