Patee says Nok Air has already recruited several new pilots

BANGKOK: -- Nok Air has already recruited additional pilots and has improved the flight timetables for the pilots, said the low-cost airliner’s CEO Patee Sarasin in a press release sent to the media today (Friday).

As for the passengers affected by the cancellation of flights, he said that the airline would notify them in advance about the flight schedules or any changes of schedules if they will want to fly Nok Air.

For passengers who do not want to fly Nok Air after their flight cancellations, he said that they would be properly compensated.

Mr Patee also assured that the internal problem in the airline was being rectified and he was confident that it would not recur. He went on saying that he would try his best to turn Nok Air into the best low-cost airline for Thais as far as services are concerned.

Shortage of pilots has caused Nok Air to cancel several flights affecting thousands of passengers who have already had advance ticket bookings. To ease the problem on temporary basis, the airline has employed several foreign pilots.

Media release also sent to Nok Fan Club members, only one problem, very poor English translation.

This airline needs to fix many things as well as it's pilot problems. Including proper security checks at the boarding gate - on some flights the check is very cursory and on some flights there is no check at all, customers offer their boarding pass and ID and just waved through with no check at all.

Also many of their check-in staff and telephone staff can't answer clear questions e.g. what's the difference between Nok Fan Club and Nok Smile and Nok Smile Plus. I heard one Thai customer ask this question to the check-in girl, answer 'No, your confused, It's Thai Smile airline, that's not Nok Air'.

Nok Air Dives Further With 61 Flights Abruptly Canceled
By Sasiwan Mokkhasen

Passengers were stuck at Don Mueang Airport on Feb.14 after pilots of budget airline Nok Air went on strike.

BANGKOK — Despite assurances Nok Air’s downward course has been corrected from its CEO who recently unloaded millions of shares in the ailing airline, it sank further today with another 61 flights canceled.

The budget carrier issued letters of apology Friday signed by its CEO to passengers previously left stranded as another 61 flights were canceled, according to flight information from Don Mueang Airport.

"For passengers who do not want to fly Nok Air after their flight cancellations, he said that they would be properly compensated"

How? Or are we just to trust that they are doing a proper job of it?

The company is on the Thai Stock Exchange, the CEO changes the story every few days, says several times the problems are all fixed, they file details of pilots flying times etc., in the wrong way, today they announce 61 flights cancelled, then they say those flights were actually not available, what's the real story?

Seems that there's lots more going on not revealed and it's a listed company.

CEO sells millions of shares.

Shareholders have the right by law and by any semblance of ethics to know what's going on.

Seems to be some breaches of SET rules going on here.

On Jan. 21, Patee reportedly sold 6 million shares of NOK when it hit 7.62 baht. No word of any investigation into the transaction has been announced.

Now we're getting to the bottom of this scandal.

And to think the airline originally blamed pilots for supposedly failing safety checks for the cancellation of the first lot of flights.

I have said before - I would get better odds playing the casinos at Poipet than in the SET.

So Khun Patee

How many Pilots departed your Company in the past two months and how many new pilots have you employed in the same period ?

And I hope you have a short memory, 'cos next week my excuse story may change again.

Yours etc, Patty

They gave me a refund on the flight that they cancelled, posted to my credit card they said at their desk in Don Muang,

Half of the price of a return ticket . 899. Baht not a penny more for the inconvenience of having to book on another airlines.

They told me to expect 45 days for the amount to show on my credit card.

I do not think that I would fly with them again.

A great shame, once a good airline now screwed up by management. bah.gif

I always choose Nok over Airasia for domestic flight. I particularly like the extra leg room and price is reasonable. Hope they resolve all their problems soon.

Extra leg room for a 55 minute flight, ha ha , long haul I would agree.

I would choose Fernando run business rather than Thai Airways and Co. (Nok )

I really don't like the way Nok Air is handling this fiasco. We had a flight booked for a specific date and time, we looked at the flight schedule and saw that our flight was no longer available. There was only one flight available on that day when previously there were 3. So we are thinking, "Why haven't they contacted us to tell us our flight was cancelled? Surely they have a duty to contact the customer? Do they expect us to travel to the airport and then find out our flight is cancelled?"

So my wife tries to call them but every time she calls she is put on hold for hours and she eventually gives up. Finally, after days of trying she gets through to a real person and asks about our flight....yes our flight is cancelled....yes we can get a refund...the refund will take 4 month.....4 months!!!!

If Nok Air was more forthcoming with information I would be much more forgiving. We should have received at least an email as soon as they cancelled our flight. I think they are in big trouble and don't even have the money to give refunds. Their customer service is abysmal. If they were trying to keep customers happy while sorting out their problems, they've gone about it in the wrong way as ignoring your customers is not good relations IMO.

It is possible that THAI would be happy enough to let Thai Smile take over all the routes, and buy up some very cheap second hand planes too.

Since they wisely decided not to buy 20 per cent of another airline, that is.....

At least Air Asia would have got you there! Obviously you are not a passenger who has been "inconvenienced" recently.

I tried forever to call them on Friday morning 4 Mch to confirm a flight late afternoon same day, calls just timed out and automatically cancelled except about 3:00 pm did get a response, pressed the buttons for English, obviously very young, uninformed and naive your man answers the call but can't speak English. I ask him, In Thai, to transfer my call to an English speaker. Response: Mai mee khrap.

I asked him in Thai about the status of DDxxxx - Response: mai mee Khrap.

I asked do you mean it's cancelled or....? - Response: mai mee khrap.

I called Nok at CM airport - nobody answers the phone.

I went to the airport and check-in staff flipantly say 'yes the flight is OK', and ask why I didn't call to check.

A few months ago I had concerns about travel insurance on their flight DM to Hanoi, which I had already booked. On the itinerary it shows NOK insurance but there was never any confirmation from the insurance company. On insisting NOK check it they discovered their own website accepted my 'click' for the insurance but didn't add the Baht amount to the bill. Therefore I actually had no insurance.

After numerous calls and total confusion in their office and no answer to my questions and no promised call back I went to the AXA website and bought separate travel insurance.
