Turkey gags Zaman, one of its last opposition newspapers

Turkish authorities have seized control of the opposition newspaper Zaman, one of the country’s last remaining opposition media outlets.

Zaman is linked to Islamic cleric Fetullah Gulen, a former ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Now the president says Gulen has been plotting against his government by building a network of supporters inside Turkey’s judiciary, police and media.

Authorities have seized and shut down opposition media outlets associated with the Gulen movement before.

Erdogan has led a crackdown against the Gulen movement after police and prosecutors seen as sympathetic to the cleric opened a corruption investigation into Erdogan’s inner circle three years ago.

Erdogan is tightening his grip. The monster in him is emerging, it's just a matter of when he no longer cares about international opinion.

I think this day is coming soon.

I think this day is coming soon.

Germany right now is debating about whether or not to shut down a political party because of its views. And no one is accusing them of violating human /civil rights , but when we do it people suddenly remember everything about democracy.

I like how Erdogan doesnt give a hoot about what the international community thinks of him.

The owner of Zaman is Fetullah Gulen, his organization commited treason against Turkey.

Well on reading his Wikipedia page I would say that Gulen seems to be the good guy in this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fethullah_Gülen

Maybe being born and having lived in Turkey makes me a better source than a wikipedia page. Gulen is like George Soros, but much worse. His cult got thousands of people imprisoned for offences they did not commit. Since you are a big wikipedia investigators, look at ergenekon and balyoz trials, all of those trials were organized by prosecutors loyal to gulen.

Leecher society, that's rich coming from a nation tapping Europe for billions of dollars because it refuses to police its own borders or stop destabilizing its neighbors.

Why should we assume all the responsibility regarding refugees? Its a world problem, EU has the pay its share. We are already hosting 3m of them and have spent 10 billion euros on them.

You guys started crying when you received measly 500k refugees. Good news is that refugees finally have waken up, most of them are going to Europe so they can get their welfare check just like the Greeks and Spaniards.

By the way it was France who bombed and ousted Gaddafi.

I can't argue with that France f$&ked up big time. Actually there are two groups in this world trying to out do each other with crass stupidity, one being the Islamist right, the other being the internationalist socialists who run the EU. They probably deserve each other. Incidentally your other post about Germany trying to ban a political party demonstrates that the two groups I mentioned are as totalitarian as each other, indeed they appear to be in alliance to destroy European nation states and cultures.

Erdogan did his part in destabilizing Syria though, which may break up into many states like the Balkans did. One will be a Kurdish homeland, possibly including some Turkish territory. But I guess you have to take the rough with the smooth as the Cypriots would say.

i think you are not aware of the fact that same country spent 10 billion euros for refugees. 3 billion euros is what? a cheap 1000 euros for 3 million refugees.

both those edogan and gulen are islamofascists so they fight and axe and eat each other which i enjoy:)
