TAT and Ayutthaya to hold 12th World Muay Thai Wai Kru event

AYUTTHAYA, 11 March 2016 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has joined with Ayutthaya Province to organize the 12th World Muay Thai Wai Kru event to promote and preserve the art of Thai boxing.

Deputy Governor of Ayutthaya Kajornsak Charoensopha joined TAT Director of Activities Noppadol Pakprot and head of Kaew Samrit Muay Thai Camp Srimuang Singhasuan-ngern to announce the 12th World Muay Thai Wai Kru and “Nai Kanom Thom Day” events taking place this March 17-20 in Ayutthaya.

The deputy governor elaborated that the events will be held to promote the tradition of Wai Kru, or honoring of teachers, which is an essential part of Thai boxing. The happenings will also be in honor of the nation’s past kings and soldiers, who used Thai boxing to defend the country.

The activities will be participated in by celebrity boxers and showcase traditional Thai boxing and weaponry.

The TAT has invited up to 1,200 Thai boxers from 54 countries to join in the festivities, which it expects will generate 20 million baht in revenue for Ayutthaya and stimulate tourism to the central region.
